Make up and hair

Anne, on August 14, 2022 at 7:39 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 20
Hello all! Do you typically have someone come to you for your hair and makeup the day of your wedding or do you go somewhere to have it done? Thanks!

This is completely up to your preference, budget, location, and artist requirements. Typically on-site hmua require a certain number of services be done (ie, a certain number of people having their hair and makeup done) in order for them to travel to you. They also usually require you to be within a certain mile radius of them, and will usually always charge a travel fee, and parking fees if required. On-site services are more expensive, but remember you are paying for the convenience it provides.

Thanks for the information. Yes I'm only having a maid of honor, 2 flower girls so only 4 of us would need to do something with our hair and the 2 of us adults would need makeup. I'm trying to figure out all these small details so I'm trying to get some information before it gets to close to the wedding.

Do you have a regular stylist that does your hair? If so, I’d reach out to them first. Oftentimes if you have a long-standing relationship with a stylist they will be willing to tweak the rules for you 😉
Otherwise, I would research hmua in your area and check out their websites- usually their on-site requirements are listed there. If not, you can reach out to them for info.

Thanks for the tips, I don't have a regular I normally go too. Maybe the local salons around where we're getting married would be the best option. That way all of us can get our hair done at the same time. I'm not sure about make up.

I went to the salon the morning of because that was my personal preference. It just made more sense for me based on the logistics of my situation. Good luck in whatever you decide Smiley smile

Thank you! Yes that's what I'm thinking, it's a small bridal party and we're not really going over the top with a lot of things. Trying to not spend a ton lol

My hairstylist came to the house and charged $75 flat rate for each person (no travel fees, etc). The venue did not allow on-site styling (although it had a beautiful suite with stylist chairs) because they had issues with the amount of hairspray used which created a mess and was nearly impossible to clean accordinary to them.

Oh wow, yea talk about confusing. It's only me and my maid of honor and 2 flower girls so I'm trying to decide what to do. If it's even worth the money?

Do you have styles in mind for the flower girls or are you just wanting to keep them more involved in the ceremony (or preparations for it)?

We have not planned out the beauty part but maybe the on-site wouldn't work out pricewise.

Do you mean style as in their hair and dresses?
We're just starting to plan things so everything is still being figured out. I'd like them to have their hair done cute and a nice dress, no make up.

If the availability is there, I would highly suggest hiring someone to come to you, preferably to your venue if it has a "get ready room/area". If your venue does not have a designated area to get ready in I would still suggest to have the hair and makeup artist come to you.

Thank you, were going to look at the venue tomorrow so I'm going to see if there's areas to get ready at. I would think they'd have something sense they do weddings there.

Awesome, hopefully there will be for you because I know that is such a big bonus and eases a lot of stress with having that area. Unfortunately there are places that are used as a venue space that do not have areas to get ready in.

Definitely take your time to look over the whole venue space/area and ask all the questions that you can. Best of luck!

If you've got a few people who want it having them come to you may make your life easier - unless you're going to use multiple people at a salon to save time!

I do think re hair that it is reasonable to let your bridesmaids/MOH choose if they want their hair done on the basis that they pay for it and get whatever they want. I have had this as a bridesmaid myself and took no offence

If you want to choose their hairstyle then you should definitely fork out for it!

That's a great idea and helps save some money! I was thinking sense its just me maid of honor and 2 flower girls we could just do each other's hair as I want something more simple.

Here is a website that provides a good guideline of questions to ask if the person you would be touring the venue with if he/she does not provide any kind of informational paperwork (hopefully they will): https://www.herecomestheguide.com/wedding-ideas/questions-to-ask-your-wedding-venue

I'm having my HMUA team come to the hotel suite I'll be staying in. Some members of the group are getting dropped off, some are driving themselves, and some are out of town. I just figured it would be easiest in the event I need something (spare contact lens, extra application of deodorant, etc.) and so I can just leave my phone and anything else there once we're all ready to take off. We only have the bridal suite in our church for an hour before the ceremony, so we're basically only getting dressed there. Everyone can leave their bags or whatever in the room for the ceremony, then afterwards either partners can grab bags or they can be dropped off at the hotel before the reception.
