Maid of Honor/bridesmaid Boxes

Christine, on December 30, 2017 at 5:39 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 27
I want to ask my maid of honor and bridesmaid in a cute way with a "bridesmaid box". I ordered satin robes for my girls, but I need some ideas of other items I can include in their boxes. Nothing too expensive since my fiancé and I are paying for the wedding ourselves. Any ideas are appreciated ❤️

Save the robes to give them later. All of these gifts in bridesmaid "proposal" boxes are completely OOT. They also make it uncomfortable to say no. If they say No, do they give the robe back? Just ask each of them privately so they can say yes or nor, or even just tell you they need time to make that decision.

First of all the robes are not gifts, they’re props for your photographs. Do not give gifts as a bridesmaid proposal. Then they feel obligated to accept and it causes drama. Also, it’s expensive (or can be). As pp said, save the money for their gifts later. Proposal boxes have been fetishized by Pinterest.

I got these cute little "will you be my bridesmaid?" scratch offs at party city, some ring pops at dollar tree, and little bottles of champagne. Small enough that I didn't feel like it made them feel obligated but I wanted it to be cute. I got different stuff for my junior bridesmaid (slinkies, notepads) and his sister (lush products) that is 7 years sober. My coworker got a Kate Spade bracelet in the box the bride mailed her.

I put some nail polish, face masks, etc. in mine. However, speaking from experience I would wait until at least 8-10 months before your wedding to ask them to be in your bridal party.

There are a lot of inexpensive things you could add to a bridal proposal box. I had shredded paper, picture/picture frame, a candle, nail polish, chocolate and a little chalkboard asking them to be a part of my bridal party. They loved them!

I would keep it simple. I ordered these cute bath bombs off Etsy, a mini bottle or champagne, and a bride tribe shot glass. For my MOH, I just made up a golden ticket that said Maid of Honor on it for hers.

I would save the robes for their getting ready prop and give it to them closer to the wedding.

I would save the robes for part of the BM gift and do something simple. Maybe a small bottle of champagne and a cute note? Could throw in a mini candle too? Marshalls has nice smelling ones for like $3 - I got those for my girls in their box.

I agree, I received a personalized bridesmaids box and had to decline; SUPER AWKWARD. There are cute cards on Etsy though, some are funny. Only $3 per card, then get them something small like a bath bomb, ring pop and a mini bottle of champagne.. chapstick, whatever you think theyd like without too much pressure!

Thanks for the comments and ideas! Just to clarify I asked my maid of honor and bridesmaid and they already said yes. I just wanted to make them feel special and give them each a box of cute things just for fun and to show my appreciation.

I didn’t do a “proposal box”. I asked them myself, and got their sizes. Their “gift” was their bridesmaid dress. I bought them all... at a whopping $11.75 a piece. That’s the best I could afford, and they’re happy with not having to buy it.

Where'd you get dresses for $11.75?? We're paying for everything ourselves too so the cheaper the better lol, do you have pictures?

Baby is sleeping, so I can’t get up but this is the stock photo. They came from Old Navy. I know, right?! They’re a silky/satin material.. super soft and perfect length for our barn wedding, as they’ll be wearing boots but I don’t want any undergarment shows. They also have a built in slip which was a super plus! They were on sale, plus I had an additional 25% off, plus free shipping over $50 so it worked out for my four bridesmaids to $11.75 a piece and I just got 2 pair of cheap flip flops as a filler so I didn’t have to pay the shipping costs. They may not still have a dress material like this (obviously old navy mostly carries cotton casual dresses) so if not, you can also try savedbythedress.com. That is actually where I ordered my ($72) wedding dress, and they have a lot of options, cheap, with fast shipping.

This is the actual dress next to the flowers so you can see the silky sheen of the fabric.

I did handmade cards with sweet messages in my wedding colors and tied them onto mini cupcake wines with ribbon. They loved them!

I spoke to all of my BMs (MOH claimed her spot the night I was engaged... It's my sister lol) to make sure they were interested, available and financially capable. After that, I bought some cute little wooden boxes at Michael's, put a candle and some mini bath bombs inside, with some (cheap!) metal bracelets off Amazon that have a knot in them around a card saying I can't tie the knit without you. I then included a card with a sweet little note to each of them. I think I spent maybe $50/60 to make 4 of them

I just called my friends and I knew my sister would be my maid of honor. I ditched the gift idea because it was too expensive. Instead I offered to pay for their hair and make up and I'll be giving them custom robes with their names on it. No one missed a gift box nor expected one in the first place. They more felt honored that I chose them to be in my wedding.
