Maid of Honor Speech for Sister

Summer, on March 31, 2014 at 1:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

I am 18 months younger than my sister and I am her maid of honor. I want my speech to be very unique and something that no one will forget. I wanted to start off by doing a little speech then switching over to a slideshow of pictures of us growing up then of us with her fiancé. Any suggestions or ideas would be great!

The best speeches are often times the shortest ones. I wouldn't do a slideshow. Thank them for allowing you to be a part of their wedding day, welcome your new brother into the family, and tell them how much you love them and how happy you are for them. Maybe tell 1 or 2 VERY short funny stories from when you and your sister were kids.

We did a slide show for our wedding, but most people find them boring. I would be more inclined to suggest skipping it. You could still make a slideshow and give it you your sister as a gift.

My only other suggestions are: keep your speech clean, don't do a lot of inside jokes, keep it short and be thoughtful in your words.

I agree with the PPs - slideshows are actually really boring for guests. Unless you're immediate family, nobody really wants to see a bunch of childhood photos.

I would keep it like a skirt - long enough to cover the subject, short enough to be interesting. Three minutes or less, and don't use a lot of inside jokes.
