Maid of Honor and Best Man Drama

When choosing a maid of honor. A bride is to choose someone who is very close to her. Someone she can trust. Someone who will have her best interests at heart, and someone who has her back. My fiancé has a friend who has been in his life for years. He wanted him to be his best man. He has a live in girlfriend. So the four of us went out to eat a couple of times. We went to Jacksonville to visit them and they came to our home to visit us. She and I became really close. So I told my fiancé that since Ken was going to be his best man. I would ask his fiancé to be my maid of honor. He said that would be great. I asked her. She feel in love with the idea and she yes. She would love to be my maid of honor. We talked on the phone and texted back and forth for months. I texted her pictures of the dresses I had picked out for the other bridesmaids and gave her the first choice to pick out her dress. All dresses were royal blue. But the maid of honor and the matron of honor, who is my sister, dresses would be different. She loved the dresses and choose her dress. Over our wedding discussions, I noticed that she would give a hint. How does Mike feel about that? Did you talk things over with him? I was like. Yes. But I’m talking to you. You are my maid of honor. She said that we just want y’all to be on one accord. I was like WTH! What was she talking about. We are on one accord. But I didn’t respond. I thought to myself that I talked to him before I even begin talking to you. So I began to feel a little strange. My sister told me that you should never choose a maid of honor that you barely know. Most of the time she will try to sabotage your wedding. It seems like she may be a little jealous of you. Because you are having your dream wedding. And she has been married and is going through a divorce and is living with Ken. But I still choose to let her be in the wedding because my fiancé still wanted Ken to be his best man. I texted her. She never texted me back. I called her. She never returned my call. A few weeks went by. All of a sudden. My fiancé and I were riding out of town. He shows me on his phone. Every text message that she and I had texted. His best man Ken had sent the text messages from his phone to my fiancé’s phone. She had texted our private conversations through text to her boyfriend’s phone so he could send them to my fiancé’s phone. I was furious!! 😡 I told him that I know that’s your friend but the both of them are trying to sabotage our wedding. I wish I had listened to my sister. She has been married for over ten years and she knows trouble when she sees it. I told my fiancé that I didn’t feel like I could trust her or him now. I was not going to let her be in the wedding period now. So he decided that he would not let Ken be his best man. Because they both were involved in the drama. When he talked to Ken. He played the innocent game. They tried to say that I had stopped communicating with her. They wanted us to get together and talk it out. I was like no way! I’m done! All I need is my sister to be my matron of honor and I choose my god sister to be my maid of honor. I don’t even want to invite Ken and his girlfriend to the wedding. But Ken and my fiancé are very close. He says that he doesn’t want him there. But. I know he is hurt by the whole situation. Sometimes men don’t see into things like women do. Everybody I have talked to about this situation says the same thing. Ken is really not his true friend. They were trying to break y’all up. You do all think that Mike, my fiancé should invite just Ken to the wedding as a guest?

Yikes. I would talk to your FH and if he wants Ken there, let him but she is a guest only. They can only cause drama if you allow it. They shouldn't need to be a package deal.

Thank You Heather. You are absolutely right. As of a few minutes ago. My fiancé said that he didn’t want either one there. I’m going to just leave it up to him. If he changes his mind. I will respect his choice.

If your fiance is uncomfortable with this as well the invite them both. You don't need extra drama.

Thank you Kelly for your advice. As of right now. The ex- maid of honor and the ex- best man are both uninvited to the wedding.

This is why I am having my sister as my maid of honor and my daughter as my bridesmaid and keeping our wedding party small. If there is one lesson to be learned on WW, it's that bridal parties can become an unnecessary complication and stress. I hope you get this worked out. Keeping you in prayer.

Thank you so much WifeyPoo. You are right. I should have listened to my sister to begin with. But I had to learn that those two truly are not my friends. They are not even going to be invited to the wedding now. My sister is going to be my matron of honor and my god sister is going to be my maid of honor. My sept-daughter and my sister-in-law are going to be my bridesmaids. Thank you for your continuing prayers! 🙏🏽😃

Kicking someone out of the wedding can be a friendship ending move. I'd say you've potentially ended the friendship [zero judgement] and shouldn't have to invite them at all.

No way! If they weren't able to sabotage the day from the inside, they will try from the outside! The last thing you need is any drama, and unfortunately they proved to you thats all they are interested in. You see peoples true colors when it comes to weddings. Sorry you even have to go through this 😔

Thanks for your opinion Mandi. We actually didn’t even hear back from them until it was too late. So they uninvited themselves to be in the wedding. So we didn’t even send them an invitation. They were never truly my friends. Ken choose to go along with his girlfriend instead of standing by my fiancé’s side.

I'm confused. I don't see how she tried to sabotage your relationship. Did I miss something? What I read was that she asked you if you asked your FH his opinion on wedding stuff, and that she had showed her boyfriend the conversations between the two of you. You said you were discussing wedding stuff. Was there more to it? That doesn't seem like she was trying to ruin your wedding. I could be wrong, I'm just trying to understand.

I disagree that picking someone you barely know as a MOH will most likely result in them trying to ruin the wedding. That doesn't even make sense. You should pick your best friend, yes, but just because you pick someone you just became friends with, doesn't mean that they'll try to break you up. That's ridiculous. It sounds paranoid

Reading your response sounds rediculous. So if she is texting the maid of honor and getting no response, and these are supposed to be conversations between the two of them, is she isn't trying to create drama why show The best man? There is no reason to text him or forward him all their conversations... thats stupid to me. Whether it was more than wedding stuff or not. I feel like if she is her friend she wouldn't do that. That's what WE CALL BEING MESSY! Planning a wedding nobody has time for people to be messy. Waste of energy entertaining it and by removing them, I feel like that was the best thing for her to do. She needs no extra stress and I really don't think how Monica and her fiancee communicate was any of her business... they got this far without her questions so I'm sure she could handle this planning as well... so for you to tell her she paranoid, you sound very ridiculous. Monica, you did right. Get out my wedding!

Ohhhh my gracious girl, drama isn't good especially if you know it's drama. Cut him loose. Don't feel bad either, it's your day to shine. Good luck and best wishes

First of all, I wasn't talking to you. 2nd, I didn't call her paranoid, I was referring to her sister. Assuming anyone you just met and are friends with who becomes your MOH would be out to get you, that's paranoia. I never said she was wrong for kicking them out, I was asking for clarification. As I said in my response to her, I didn't know if I was missing something or not. So calm down.

Btw, I think taking the best man and MOH out of the wedding must have been hard either way, and stressful, so I'm happy that you were able to do what was best for you. Not everyone is able to cut people out of their lives/weddings like that so it's great you could do it. I'm sure your wedding will be amazing.

I can respond how I choose. I read your response and took it how I took it. So. Moving on. I am calm. I said what I said to your comment and that's that. Whether or not you were talking to me is irrelevant. You didn't like what I said so you tried to get ugly. It sounded that way AGAIN anyway. However because I'm Grown and we are all up here for the same things. Enjoy your wedding and Have a good one!

RMC2019 Thank you for your comments. They were trying to sabotage my wedding. We know that. I’m not paranoid or ridiculous like Renee said. She doesn’t know me. I thought I was getting away from Facebook mess. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Thanks a lot for being honest and giving your honest opinion. 😄
