Made of Honor Doesn’t want to wear a dress

Amber, on July 29, 2019 at 3:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22
One of my close friends is very tomboy and doesn’t wear dresses. She doesn’t feel comfortable in them. Should I ask her to wear one for the ceremony? What are some other options?

Would she do a jumpsuit? Ultimately, I think you should talk to her about it and what she’s comfortable in but if you want her inna dress is it really that big of a deal? Maybe you two kind find something that’s not super girl she likes. My MOH hates dresses, but she is fine with wearing one for one day for me.

Is she more comfortable in a suit that would match the groomsmen? What about a jumpsuit kind of thing in the same color as the dresses? If she really is uncomfortable in dresses I wouldn't force her to wear one, your maid of honor outfit does not have to fit gender stereotypes to be beautiful.

I would assume you knew that she didn't like to dress super feminine when you asked her. I think this is a choose your battles type of situation. What's more important to you, your best friend's comfort, or a dress? There are plenty of nice pantsuits or jumpsuits that would work.

My sister is in the bridal party and she will be wearing a suit. The rest of the party will be wearing dresses. I want everyone to feel comfortable and confident on the day of wedding, that’s more important to me than uniformity.

Let her wear what she wants. Her comfort is more important.

They make gorgeous wedding jumpsuits these days. I would have her look at those and see if she would be comfortable in that. If not, they also make women's suits that are very pretty and flattering for the female body. We have looked at both options for not only my FW but also for one of her bridesmaids, who we gave the option of a dress or suit. The bridesmaid ended up choosing a dress. But we wanted her to wear whatever she felt most comfortable in. If your bridesmaid is not comfortable, it will show on her face, and ultimately in your photos.

If your friend isn't comfortable in dresses, please don't make her wear a dress. Respect her wishes and let her choose what makes her comfortable Smiley smile

    Does anyone actually like dresses?
I'd say ask her. If she says no, you can find a different alternative.

Ask her, offer a jumpsuit or to match the groomsmen as well. See which option she likes best and go from there.

I don't think I've ever seen a bridesmaid not in a dress, but I also probably wouldn't think twice about it if I did!

I think it's odd of her to accept the role when it's the most basic common knowledge that she would be wearing a dress. I wonder why she wouldn't bring it up then as a condition of her being your maid of honor?

But either way, I don't think it was bad or unusual for you to have that expectation, just like it wouldn't be bad or unusual for you to have the expectation that your groomsman would wear suits. But ultimately, she's your maid of honor and clearly very important to you, so it probably won't matter as much what she's wearing and just that she's there. So I think there are other good options like jumpsuits that are still formal and fit the occasion.

I think you should ask her again, and tell her it’s your day, and it would be really nice if she wore a dress. If not, I think a jumpsuit would be really nice 👍🏻 🤗

Since she is the maid of honor, it can be a different outfit. Jumpsuits work or regular suits that match. She could also wear same color pants as groomsmen and a shirt that is similar color to your bridesmaid dresses?

Jumpsuit. 100%. I've seen them at the places I've shopped for bridesmaid dresses. They are getting popular. I love them.

My best friend isn’t very girly either so I told her up front if she wanted to she could wear a suit or a jumpsuit instead. Ultimately she decided she actually wanted to dress up so she is wearing a dress to match the other bridesmaids.

This is exactly what I’m doing.. my friend wears men’s clothes only so I told her she can wear whatever she wants, just long pants and a bright color dressed shirt to go with my theme... a very relaxing look. I would never expect her to wear a dress...

A jumpsuit that could look like a dress, but isn’t a dress 🙂
