Low-cost venues in DC/VA/MD

Private User, on December 28, 2013 at 7:29 PM Posted in Planning 1 16

Does anybody know of any inexpensive venues around DC/northern VA? We are planning on inviting 130 guests, but everywhere I've looked that can hold that number wants to charge upwards of $5000, which doesn't leave our budget with much else to work with. We're looking more in the $2-3K range. My FH and I are musicians, so we'd like something unique- no community centers or fellowship halls. Private museums, theaters, historic houses, farms, vineyards and wineries, anything, as long as it is not a community center!

Thanks for the help!

I scouted out almost every winery in NoVa and nothing was under $4000 until I got out towards the Shenandoah Valley and those wineries were not well equipped for weddings and you'd have to rent a tent, toilets, etc. I know you don't want a community hall, but my MOH got married a few years ago at the Fair lakes Courtyard Marriott and it was a very nice venue.

Shenandoah Valley is perfectly fine with us; we've even looked in Martinsburg, WV. Anywhere in the Blue Ridge region is great.

There is a free bridal show Jan. 5th in Front Royal and another ($5 or $10 entrance fee?) I believe Jan. 26th in Winchester, you may want to check those out. I'll post the link in a minute. I've found some of my vendors out this way and they are a tad bit more affordable than those closer to DC.

If you're ok with Martinsburg, we looked at the Historic McFarland House in Martinsburg and really liked it, it just wasn't going to work for us - http://www.historicmcfarlandhouse.com/

Various PG County (run by PG County) venues - http://www.pgparks.com/Rentals___Permits/Historic_Site_Rental.htm

Linganore Winery in Mt. Airy - http://www.linganorewines.com/m

I'll probably think of more, we looked at a ton of places!

Have you tried Piedmont country club in Haymarket or Virginia Oaks Country Club in Gainesville.

There is a bridal show at the DC Conference Center in January. You should go. You may win a venue but at the very least, you'll get to talk to vendors.

The only cheap option I know is beautiful, but won't fit your guest list. Smiley sad

Allison: We are in love with the historic McFarland House. It was our first choice, but they no longer have our date available.

Stephanie: Thanks for the heads up on Bull Run. I'll check them out.

Everyone else: registering for bridal expos as we speak!

Sorry Emily I live in Richmond so I don't think I'm much help. Good luck though! Let me know if you need the names of some affordable photographers.

How do you feel about rustic barn weddings? We booked ours at Cloverdale barn in Winchester. It's gorgeous and rental fee was under $2000. So far Claire, the owner, has been a dream to work with.

@Emily, that sucks it's not available that date! There's another house venue in Martinsburg that we didn't really look at because we'd already chose another venue, it's called the Purple Iris - http://www.purpleiris.com/

Historic Jordan Springs near Winchester is also very nice. We went for a non wedding event awhile back so I'm not sure how much it runs, but I imagine it may be in your budget. A Facebook aqua instance had her wedding there this past fall and the pictures were very pretty. Historicjordansprings.com

Main Street Station is beautiful and they are back to booking weddings for 2014. I believe its about $1000 and can accommodate roughly 100 people. Good news is you can bring in your own caterer. PM if you want any other RVA venues, my budget is not high so I may be of some assistance.

I'm getting married at The Hamilton Live!. It's a bit unconventional, but since it's a music venue and you're musicians it might be perfect? It's downtown DC and the venue fee is $1000. In house catering.. I've also saved a lot on transportation bc there are hotels in walking distance!
