Low budget wedding venue on Long Island

Karla, on January 26, 2018 at 2:47 PM Posted in New York Planning 1 39

I will be getting married later this year and it will be both my and my fiances second marriage. We are looking to do something simple for about 50 people. We are looking for a venue on Long Island that has a rustic feel and around $50-$60 per person. We want to keep the entire wedding under $5,000 (for everything). I know this will be a challenge but I am determined to make it happen. We'd like the ceremony and reception at one place and either buffet or sit down dinner is okay with us. Thanks for any recommendations you may have!

Honestly, I'm not sure thats even possible on Long Island.

I looked into this when I first got engaged and it just wasn’t plausible. Especially if I wanted to properly entertain. Even if you chose the restaurant route you couldn’t make that work. I’d look into an elopement or postpone your date another year and save save save. Good luck!

I'm not from Long Island but some things you have to consider. We our doing a budget friendly wedding and we are doing everything early. This saves so much money and Even though we don't get to party as much we invited our friends to come down to our room which is downtown and hang out at a cigar bar and casino.

I live in Westchester, which is basically the same as LI in terms of wedding costs, and that's just not going to happen if you're looking at designated wedding venues. You need to look at doing a fixed menu in a restaurant, and maybe you can find one that has a private or semi-private dining area. We did our welcome dinner at an Italian restaurant (in Westchester) for $60/head, and it included antipasto platters for cocktail hour, salad course, pasta course, entree course, dessert, and unlimited house wine and beer. Tax and gratuity was additional, we had 55 guests, and I think all in we were around $4300. But that was just for the dinner. If you need the $5000 to also cover your dress, photography, officiant, etc... I'm sorry, but I just don't see how that's possible in this area. I would consider cutting down your guest list by half, or pushing the wedding back until you can save more money.

I would echo a restaurant with a private dining room. This still may not be possible with 50 guests. If you go out to a mid-range restaurant on Long Island and get an app, entree, dessert, and drink, you will be hard-pressed to find somewhere that would be under $50-60pp. Can you look into The outer Boroughs or New Jersey? I think you would have better luck there.

I'm in KY and can't even stay under $5000 for 28 adults.

Ok thank you for all the input, I will definitely rethink the date but not my budget. I think there is a way I can do this. I already had a big wedding so I’m really looking to do something simple. I don’t plan on having a photographer the whole time (my friend will do it for cheap and get the shots I want in 90 minutes). I plan on getting an inexpensive dress. I will spend money on a DJ and food and minimal flowers. Invites and such I will find ways to cut cost. I’m wondering if anyone has done anything unique to cut costs.

Wedding spot website and the vendor tab will help you gather tons and quotes and find something in your range. Sometimes you can tell them your budget and they make it work.

Hi Karla, I'm getting married on long island in September. I can tell you there are several lovely vineyards that are dying for weddings at their wineries! Try Jason's vineyard, or pindar. You may need to negotiate but I think you may have some luck.

Cake and punch? Brunch? I think avoiding the evening/dinner time is a great start in addition to cutting your guest list to 30, or less.

You should look at some of the Lessings venues. Many of them have multiple spaces where they can do smaller parties. Also the Milleridge Inn has a lot of rooms for parties. I think the vibe you might end up with will be lower key but can be very nice. Also, I'm going to a brunch birthday party for a friend at View in Oakdale. I got married at Flowerfield which was amazing...you could ask them about weekdays although I think it might be tight price wise. They did offer to adjust the price if I was willing to book for a January date the September before. (I didn't do it.) So planning quickly can get you some discounts.

Shandon Court in East Islip has two private rooms, and enough options that would fit into your budget.

I would look into renting a space such as http://www.northshorebeach.org/clubhouse and doing simple Italian catering. That is the only way you can do it for that cheap on Long Island. Lessings venues will do small minimums for day weddings but even then you will be over 5k for 50 people. I also heard Rocco Anthony's does small minimums and is very affordable.

Check out West End Cafe in Carle Place. They will give you the whole restaurant on a Sunday afternoon (they are not generally open on Sundays for lunch) for a 50 person minimum. 3 course lunch is about $35/person and wine/beer is about $10/person. Food and service is fantastic and they will even give you a choice of linen colors and will print menus for no extra cost. It’s not rustic but very pretty and has a very big parking lot for your guests. For flowers, check out Masters & Co. in Rockville Centre. I used them for my personal flowers and they were gorgeous and extremely reasonably priced.

Vineyards on LI are very expensive. Pindar charges $4500 just for the space not including catering or furniture rentals. They charge a lot because they need to close the vineyard to customers so they need to guarantee income for the day. They also require you to buy their wine. One vineyard we looked at had a 10 case minimum.

Thank you so much for this information! I looked at their website and I really like it! I will definitely look into it! I know it’s possible to do something within a low budget it’s just a matter of finding it and making compromises.

My pleasure. My MOH threw my shower there since it’s my favorite restaurant on Long Island.
