Losing weight after ordering your dress?

MrsH14, on May 17, 2014 at 7:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Has anyone lost a significant amount of weight/inches after ordering your dress? How much did you lose and did your dress fittings go alright?

I'm starting a program called Isagenix. It's not because I cared about getting skinny for the wedding (FH loves me as is), but we want to try for kids as soon as possible after the wedding, and I'm not comfortable doing that until I get weight off and get healthier. I've seen (and know several) people that have lost a significant amount of weight and inches on this program, which I'm excited to do also, but I'm nervous about my dress being too big when I go for my first fitting. I know seamstresses can do amazing things, but I'm still nervous!

I don't have any personal experience, but my advice would be to have your first fitting ASAP, and ask your seamstress how many sizes your dress would be able to be taken in later on should you lose weight. Then, figure each size as 10 lbs, and limit your weight loss to the number of sizes she said times 10 lbs. So, if she says it can be taken in up to two sizes, then plan on only losing weight/using the program until you lose 20 lbs (2 sizes x 10 lbs), and then stopping and just try to maintain your weight until the wedding.

Most dresses can be taken in up to four sizes, but that's not to say it can't get expensive. Also, realistically, you probably won't lose more than 15-25 lbs before your wedding in August, so as long as you are the same size you were when you ordered the dress, I don't foresee any issue.

I'll be on the program for 2 weeks before my dress comes in (delays with the designer). In my past I usually didn't drop a size until I lost 15-20 pounds (I just lost 10 and still same size). My plan was to follow the program for a month and then maintain, then start losing again after the wedding. Maybe I'll just call the dress shop and talk to the seamstress.

Hey we're date twins.... At alterations they told me to lose as much as I want because it's easier to take in than let out but that also depends on the style of your dress but good luck

I've lost fifteen pounds since I bought my dress and have my first fitting this week. I'm anxious to talk to the seamstress, too, I've got 9 pounds to go, so not sure if it's still okay to lose up until the last fitting. Fingers crossed! Good luck with yours as well, and good luck on your weight loss journey!

I lost 25 lbs and more importantly toned up a lot between ordering my dress and starting alterations. After that I lost a little more, not a lot, but I kept working out and trying to tone up. It wasn't a problem for alterations, but of course they more they work on your dress, the more they charge... My dress also had a corset back so that helped too.

I lost 5 lbs and so my dress had to be taken in 4 inches. The seamstress didn't seem worried at all.

I won't be able to get in to my dress for another month or so. I purposely bought it small so I'd HAVE to loose the weight I wanted. Dicey but motivating! Which reminds me, I need to get up and go for a run!

I am wondering this same exact thing! We just got engaged and everyone wants me to try on wedding dresses but I am in the midst of losing significant weight. The goal I still have is over 50 lbs and I'm hesitant to try on dresses at my current size and then have problems later after I've found a dress. I just don't know what to do. And I'm not sure when the latest I should be dress shopping is since we have a 7 month engagement!
