Losing weight a month before the wedding

2018wedding, on March 5, 2018 at 12:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

My wedding is May 27th and I want to lose as much weight by May 1st.

I wanted to drop off my dress for alterations end of April. I called the seamstress to make an appointment and she told me I was cutting it to close. They need the dress at least 2 months before. However, I really want that last month to lose 5-8 more pounds.

Should I find another seamstress who can fit my timeline or am I being unreasonable with my timeline.

What the seamstress told you is fairly standard.

You are being unreasonable. No seamstress is going to agree to keep taking your dress in the last weeks before the wedding.

Also, literally nobody is going to notice a 5-8 lb difference. It’s not worth stressing over.

Losing 5-8lbs might not make your dress fit different. You can't choose where the weight comes off (unfortunately), and weight doesn't normally come off all in the same place, so it's unlikely that you'll go down a dress size with that weight loss. Loosing 5-8lbs by May is definitely possible though, and depending on your current size and where you carry your weight it might be noticeable that you've lost weight but just not enough for you to need further alterations. So I'd say just have your alterations done according to the timeline the shop gave you and everything will be fine!

Is your seamstress a private business? I know that the woman who did my dress was FABULOUS. She isn't part of a chain and literally only does wedding dresses. Her only advertising is by word of mouth. I picked mine up last week and she told me to try the dress on one week before the wedding. If ANYTHING needed to be done, (take a little bit more in, let a little bit more out, whatever) to call her immediately and she'll jump right on it. Sometimes working with a smaller business or business owner can make a world of difference.

Also, go ahead and fit the dress along with the seamstress's timeline. I feel like it would be easier to request a small "tweak" close to the wedding then a major overhaul.

I say go ahead and get the alterations started. Now, I got my dress ad Davids Bridal. My wedding is April 7th and I had my alterations appointment this past Saturday lol, so one month within my wedding pretty much. I go pick up my dress March 29th, yes I cut it really close. I wanted to lose weight too lol but I didnt so now I am just going to maintain my current weight and just cut back on sweets, drink lots of water and lean protein and veggies this last month till wedding. Find you a pair of really good Spanx or similar brand, I like the kinds that look like biking shorts. And find a good pair of tummy control, slimming panties, eat right, add some cardio and you will be fine. Take that dress to get altered girl, you bringing more stress on yourself.

Don't stress about losing 5-8 pounds during the last month of wedding planning. The last thing you'll need is to rush around to get your dress altered last-minute, worry about eating limited calories, and working out. You have enough going on and you will look amazing no matter what.

Relax...enjoy these last 2.5 months, and don't worry about those 5-8 pounds!

Honestly, if your dress already fits fine (ie zips and you're not bursting out of it), you can take it for alterations now. I lost about 14 lb before my wedding between the time my dress came in (September) and the wedding (January). My dress wasn't taken in or out at alterations (November). All that happened was that my dress fit me better/lay more flat. I think if you're only planning on losing 5-8 lb you can't say where that will be so its ok to take it now.

I’m also planning to lose weight for my wedding I already lost 7lbs on the raw generation juice 3-day cleanse. http://rawgeneration.com/

Worth a try if you’re looking for a healthy & safe way to lose. I look and feel very different, even though it was a few lbs. I fit into a dress I haven’t worn in 3 years. Not sure why other posters are saying it won’t make a difference - everyone’s body is different...

Keep looking for a seamstress who can make the last minute changes, lotsss of brides’ weight fluctuate before their wedding.
