Look online before you buy a veil at DB!!

I got talked into my elbow length veil at DB. $189. I knew all along I wanted a cathedral length one, but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg. Found one on Amazon for $10! It's a simple single tier raw edge. Nothing to it but the length. And I'm completely ok with it. FH was a little upset because he is afraid he's going to step on it, and also that I spent the money for the other one. I promised him I'd wear it for our first dance, since he wants a pic of us dancing with me wearing a veil. But the cheaper one will be for pics and the ceremony. I'm losing both when the reception gets into full gear.

I inspected it thoroughly when it arrived, and it's very good quality tulle. Not stiff at all. It has a plastic comb as opposed to a metal one. But it's lovely and matches my gown perfectly. I love it so much.

I'm either going to DIY my veil or spend no more than $25 on etsy for one. When I went dress shopping the birdcage veil I tried on was $500!! That's just ridiculous!

I agree... Was so caught up in my dress that when it got to the veil I just said sure and $249 later... veil cost half the price of the dress

It's usually best to shop around. Not DB's fault. They need to make money :-)

Find the one you like and then sell you DB veil on ebay

We just ordered my MOH dress yesterday for $140, she just sent me a text that she found it used on ebay for $60. She is going to try to cancel it tomorrow. Fingers crosses she can save the money! (i only have a 1 person bridal party, so no nees to worry about colors matching)

I ordered my veil with my dress from DB online, as it matched my dress (it has beading/crystals on it, and is fingertip length.) Even so, I got a deal on it, because both it and my dress were being discontinued. Therefore, the $99 veil that I wanted to match my dress ended up costing me $25 instead, which to me was totally worth it. I love it, it looks great with my dress, and is exactly what I wanted. DB cycles through their stuff so fast, veils especially, that those brides who have some time between now and their weddings (like a year or so) would do well to watch their sale and clearance sites and see if they can score a veil they like that way.

The veil the girl at DB put on me, while being very pretty, cost about half what my dress did. Yeah...no thanks.

I plan on making my own. $20 and a bit of work to make it what I want.

I paid $70 for mine from Etsy and it is honestly more beautiful than anything DB tried to show me. It's beaded lace (like my dress).

My friend just got married and her veil was 9ft long. Her sister bought the tulle and then lace scalloping and sewed it on the edges. T was gorgeous for only $120. The woman who did her alterations said she would have sold it for $1000

I've been lurking for awhile, but I figured I'd chime in because I had a great experience with an Etsy veil shop. My mom and I are very crafty, and we were fully planning on making a veil, but time was running out so I decided to just go with Etsy. The shop I purchased from was called BellaBridalVeils, and the owner, Connie, was a delight to work with. The tulle is very soft and seemed higher quality than tulle we were looking at for DIY. She will even send you samples for color matching (I decided to just go with a color because my wedding date is approaching quickly)...she helped me select a color and it looks beautiful with my gown. This is a link to the exact veil I bought. I totally understand how nerve wracking it can be buying this stuff site-unseen, but I had a very pleasant experience here!

Thanks, Karen. Have seen some beautiful veils on Etsy but when we order online we have to take a leap of faith that we get what is advertised, huh?! If a veil ad says "soft illusion tulle" we hope it is, rather than stiff nylon netting. (Doesn't seem to be a number or way to discern the softness... I looked!) Anyway, as to my $189 veil from DB. ... looking at the ones on Etsy, I'm about ready to just order one. .I would sell the one I bought at DB for much less than I paid , only b/c I doubt I'll wear it. I 'm drooling over a 108" cathedral length veil, but can think of 10 reasons why NOT to buy such a thing. I know it'll be in the way ...prob just silliness for an older bride like me. But maybe I'll get one on Etsy for $30 and just wear it for a few photos. My gown is a full ball gown so might as well go the whole way with it!!

Thank you, Karen!! I had picked a veil from DB but am unwilling to pay the $150 for it when I see them so much less expensive on Tradesy and other sites. I too thought of making my own, but since every other aspect of my wedding is DIY, I seriously DOUBT I will have time.

I just bought a chapel veil from ebay for $45. I plan on wearing it for the ceremony. I'm not expecting it to be perfect, but I hope it will work
