Long Island Venue for 100 people minimum??

Sarah, on September 10, 2019 at 10:53 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 11

Hi Brides!! We have looked at almost every place there is on LI for a wedding venue. My fiance and I are looking to get married on a Saturday afternoon in September / October 2020, but with "only" 100-125 people. We can't guarantee more than that since his entire side is from the UK. Most places we go to can't give us that low of a minimum head count, or they raise their prices per person in exchange for a lower minimum. Does anyone have suggestions? We thought we had a venue picked out, until they hit us with even more hidden costs and fees! Now I just feel a bit discouraged and back to square one.

You’re right, most LI venues are huge! I saw a place called Smithtown Landing Golf Course in Smithtown that was smallish, maybe check it out? I ended up going with a place closer to NYC where I live.

Hey I was having a similar issue, as were having a 60 person wedding in LI. Have you considered doing your wedding on a weekday or in the off season of a specific venue? This helps - we are getting married at Sea Cliff Manor in April. They do small weddings on Thursday’s at reduced prices. Their pricing is great and venue is beautiful, with great reviews on food. I’m not sure off the top of my head what their minimum is as far as guests. I believe Larkfield Manor is 120 minimum as well. What I did too was google intimate wedding venues LI NY and a bunch of places came up. Best of luck to you!!

Oh I’m sorry - another great one is Bates House in Setauket. Picturesque but it is definitely a DIY, and you would have to hire a caterer. Farm to Table by Filomena loves catering to that venue.

I’m getting married at The Fox Hollow in Westbury and my guest count is 120 in the winter garden. They were super accommodating.

We had a similar bad experience with Villa Lombardi's on Long Island. Originally, our numbers were pushing up against their minimums. Spent a lot of face time with them (they like meetings way too much) but accomplished little. They claim to personalize your wedding but then when you meet to discuss, the conversation always and quickly turns to "up-charges" for everything. I also found that there were things that they weren't going to mention if I hadn't asked (which would have surprised me with a lot of unexpected added expense right before the wedding).

We chose to stay away from Villa Lombardi's and look at other venues. We liked Soundview, Stroudsmoor, Watermill, and East Wind. All had much better customer service and were much more responsive to inquiries (Villa Lombardi's is horrible about responding -- sometimes taking days for simple questions).

I got engaged Xmas day and looked at some venues in Long Island, we were told the same exact thing. I kept saying if my list only has about 120 how can I ensure I will have 150 people to attend. There are some venues we visited that do accommodate smaller wedding sizes. Such as Jericho terrace ( I loved them! But didn’t like the room they were offering us for our wedding. It felt small to me and I feared our guests would be cramped) Crest Hollow and Chateau Briand were also lovely and their rooms were lovely they worked with me as far and didn’t give me a minimum for the amount of people I needed to have attend. My wedding is also in January which is a slow time of year for them so maybe that is why. I hope you chose your venue and love it!
