Long engagement blues

So my fiance and I just got engaged, we agreed that we wanted to have a long engagement (we want to get house, save for the wedding we want, etc.). I'm trying to figure out what style and things like that. We have an idea of when we want to get married (Dec 2021). Should I start calling places to...

Or should I wait until closer to date?

First off Congratulations on your engagement. I would start getting prices now just so you can get an idea of how much money that you need to save for your big day.

You need to start looking for vendors before other people take the date you want to book with them

It doesn’t hurt to start looking and planning now. A lot of venues will hold the day for you without a down payment since it’s still so early. My fiancé and I are planning a summer 2020 wedding and just got engaged Christmas Eve. So we are in a Similar situation.

I would wait till around the 18 month mark. I sent a ton of messages on here around 2 years and several venues said they can tell me their current prices but the prices are subject to change.

Start looking now! We are having a shorter engagement (11 months) and many venues we were interested in are already booked out until 2021. It's making it so much harder for us to keep our timeline and get a venue we like.

Places book quickly, I would start planning as soon as you know what you want. So much better to get all of the big things out of the way (venue, photographer, dress...) then you can focus on all of the small details stress free!

We got engaged in October 2019, but we had bought the ring 2 months earlier. I had already done preliminary planning to find out regular rates for our area. We are getting married March 2021. Knowing the prices around us really helped in determining what we could afford and what date we could set due to savings!

See that's what I was wanting to do but my stepmother has gone total momzilla and keeps nagging at me that I have to do my guest list 1st. She wont even answer if they are going to help pay for the wedding. She freaked out when she found out I was already looking at dresses amd looking at venues. It's only been a two weeks and I'm already getting so stressed

We have an 18 month engagement (getting married in JUNE)! Start now! You may hit a planning lull in the middle but if you start now you will not have to worry about it. The long engagement will also give you time to narrow down what you want and you can take lots of trips to michaels or hobby lobby or whatever and look and different things.

I think my long engagement is allowing me to have the wedding decor, dress, guest list, ect that I am really happy with vs stressed and rushing.

This sucks I am sorry about that! We managed to tell my MIL to shove it! She wanted to basically create the guest list.

I am a pretty blunt person: However, sometimes less is more. We had really good luck with keeping our mouths shut until we put the down payment on things or bought the dress and then just said "well this is how it is going to be". I don't know that that will work for you, but that may be helpful.

I saw it's never too early to start calling and getting pricing. I think a great thing to do now is pick a date in December of 2021 and start looking for a venue. Venue's obviously vary depending on where you live but they all book up quick; especially around the holidays.

Even if you do not book anything now, calling and getting as much information as possible is a great way to get started!

Highly recommend booking sooner rather than later. Our venue books 2 years in advance with a waiting list. Luckily the Friday we wanted was available. We were engaged February 2019, booked venue March 2019 and getting married July 2020

I am a December 2021 bride...SO HARD! we are soon to book our venue and begin booking vendors and so on and so forth. I was not going to look at dresses until next year but ive read here that alterations and other things can take up to 5-10 months getting your dress! id rather start now and relax and party later Smiley smile
