Long engagement blues

So my fiance and I just got engaged, we agreed that we wanted to have a long engagement (we want to get house, save for the wedding we want, etc.). I'm trying to figure out what style and things like that. We have an idea of when we want to get married (Dec 2021). Should I start calling places to...

Or should I wait until closer to date?

I’d start now because venues start real quick, specially around spring time.

Me and my fiance had a 3 years engagement. We booked our venue 1year and 1/2 before our wedding it makes it easier to pay it off. Trust me time for wedding stuff fly's by fast.

I would definitely start looking for venues but wait on other things for now. I was surprised how quickly venues fill up especially if you have an idea on what month you want to get married. Like others said, you’re going to change what you want throughout the process but a venue is a pretty concrete area to start. I got engaged March 2019, found my venue in July 2019 and got the last date they had available for October 2020. It flies by. Congratulations!

I agree with everyone else. Depending on where you live and where you’re looking to get married, places can start booking quickly. We got engaged in June 2019, and we just booked at the beginning of this month for October of 2021. Dates book quickly for where we’re looking, though.

We’re also planning on moving within the next 8-10 months. However, we have a pretty good idea of what our budget will be for the wedding, and just need to make a good savings plan.
Congratulations! I wish you the best with your planning. ☺️

I think it’s best to start calling places now! My fiancé and I are also having a long engagement (1.5 years May 2021) and we just signed the contract to our venue. You’ll be surprised at how many places are already booked. Also, we got to lock in our prices which was amazing! Added bonus is that with more time, you can spread out the tasks so it’s not as overwhelming Smiley smile

So we have a long engagement too, I’d say if there’s a venue that you really want and know that it’ll book up fast that you should book that ASAP. Having a long engagement is nice though, because it gives you time to really think about what you want, I’ve gone to almost all the bridal shows/expos where I live and it’s really helped get an idea on how much things really are and it’s helped us budget. Plus it’s been nice to get to know vendors before hand especially since you don’t have to do like a formal meeting and it’s not awkward to say no thank you if it’s not a good fit.

Book now!! We got engaged in September of 2018 and are getting married November 21, 2020 and our venue was already booked for the first two weekends in November which were the dates we ideally wanted. You can worry about the smaller details later but I would definitely get the bigger stuff out of the way so your date Is secured and you have a better idea of your cost

I just engaged in November ‘19. We put a deposit down on a venue so we could have payments spread out and everything would be paid off by our wedding date April 2021! We’ve looked around for videographers, photographers, cake and food. We bought the bouquets (silk flowers) and I got my dress already (thrift shop and a steal whoop!). It seems like a lot but it’s what we want especially since he won’t be here because he’ll be joining the AF. I didn’t want to decide on everything on my own and I’m very happy we are waiting so we don’t have to worry about certain things at the last minute on our wedding day.

We got engaged August 15th 2019 and our wedding date it August 14th 2021. We already started booking stuff for our wedding and planning everything out. We not only get to take time making sure everything is perfect but we also get first dibs on everything because we are planning so far in advance. The only thing with planning so far in advance is that some of the things we want to book won't let us book until our wedding is a year away! Plus you are kind of taking a risk giving money to these businesses so far in advance, sometimes people end up losing their money that way cause the business goes bankrupt or out of business. So just make sure that you are always getting a written contract for everything.

I got engaged in October of 2018 and we set a date in September of 2020. We basically started looking at venues and booking stuff in November of 2018. Lots of the vendors mentioned how early we were, but I looked at it like I wanted my date to be available for all of my vendors and not have to go with a second option because my first choice was already booked.

I would start searching as soon as possibly. While finding our dream venue we found some places to be booked until 2022.

We are getting married 8 21 21 and we booked everything to ensure the date. We got great deals on the photographer..dj..photo booth and weddings planner ( shes a steal at 2000) for everything...I wanted a certain person for my makeup who books over a year or more out and my hair is good..now it's up to my planner to do the details so we can sit back and enjoy

I’m feeling the same as you. We are choosing Dec. 2021 as well. We have not confirmed a venue as of yet, as we just got out home and using extra funds toward that. I am starting to freak out a bit as I am afraid the venues I like will book up. I was hoping to put down deposits and have the two years to pay it off slowly.

I would advise, taking one life event at a time. If you are getting a house first focus on that and then plan your wedding etc. around the outcome of that.
