Long Distance Wedding

Jasmine, on November 9, 2019 at 1:50 PM Posted in Planning 1 7
So my fiance and I are in a long-distance relationship (I live in Oregon and he lives in Georgia; I met him when my family used to live there). Both of our families are on opposite sides of the country. We decided to do our wedding in Georgia because it's more cost effective for us and he has more connections, but that means my family has to fly all the way over to Georgia and stay for quite a few days. My family isn't rich by any means, and we don't have a lot of options as far as lodging with other people. My mom also has my toddler baby sister in which it will be really hard to take an all day flight (obviously she will if she has to, but it just sucks). Not to mention flights and lodging is all very expensive.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how I can accommodate my family while still being cost-effective? I hope my question makes sense.

Thanks in advance!
~Jasmine

I would see if you could rent a house through AirBNB and it will likely be cheaper. Maybe they could also share the cost with any other family that’s coming to your wedding.

    Where in Georgia?

Definitely AirBnB for lodging. Your date isn't in football season, so prices shouldn't be ridiculous. Use something like Skyscanner to search for cheap flights and consider flying into neighboring airports if Hartsfield-Jackson isn't working out.

Weddingwire also has a feature that will allow you to send a mass inquiry to area hotels (to block rooms for your guests)...some really nice hotels offer some pretty good rates this way!

We have a somewhat similar problem. We opted to rent a home that had ample space to host the wedding. The house will be able to hold at least 10 people. The individual rooms at our resort were $800 a night otherwise! Who can afford that? It was easier for us to pay for the house and allowed for a more private and quaint event which is exactly what we wanted!
