Locked card box- tacky or practical?

We are thinking about purchasing a card box with a lock on it for our gift table. I'm not super worried about anyone we're inviting taking anything, but I like the idea of a precaution just in case. Would you see this as tacky if you were a guest? Are you thinking about doing something similar?

While I do not think any of my guests would steal from us, our venue requires it so they aren’t liable also.

Unfortunately, I can't even have a locked box. I am asking a close friend to keep all the cards. We have a plus one who we don't trust. Recently caught shoplifting. We 'had' to include her. Those boxes aren't big. I don't trust that the whole thing wouldnt disappear. Smiley sad

I don’t think its tacky as long as it lolks cute? Lol sounds funny, but like others have mentioned, etsy has some cute ones. At my sil wedding about 5 years ago, she had crashers show up and steal things from the wedding! Like cards (not all) and decorations! It was reallly bad and most people didn’t know because it was a large reception and there was only a few and they really just blended in. It was crazy and I actually think there were some that still stole floral areangements and table decor that WERE invited! People are crazy - definitely get a lock!

I am just putting a little bit of hot glue to close ours. We can still open it by wedging it open after the wedding but nobody would be able to easily open it quickly enough to take the cards. We have some plus ones and SOs of family we don’t know

I'm doing one and making it big and heavy .. I dont trust my dad or my brother to not steal from me .. after my divorce i was taking my engagement ring to get appraised to sell and left it in my bag .. my dad (who I think ) stole my purse , e ring, camera with irreplaceable pictures of my oldest daughters first year , my wallet , and in an expensive bag .. all stolen .. I'm over it but I have a feeling in my gut it was him .. and it was thanksgiving and I was going black Friday shopping right after . I resented him for along time .. but I protect my self now .. he pro ably won't come since he and my brother have a falling out ..

Absolutely not tacky. You can never be too safe. As they said ^ some people give money, don' want that to go missing.

We were planning to have someone take the card box (birdcage, no way to lock it), and put it somewhere safe during the reception. But, haven't figured out where that somewhere is yet.
