Locked card box- tacky or practical?

AllieB25, on January 17, 2018 at 8:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 56

We are thinking about purchasing a card box with a lock on it for our gift table. I'm not super worried about anyone we're inviting taking anything, but I like the idea of a precaution just in case. Would you see this as tacky if you were a guest? Are you thinking about doing something similar?

I'm thinking of going with a locked box as well. I don't think anyone would steal, but then again it's better to be safe than sorry after hearing some horror stories.

I’ve seen locked boxes plenty of time. They sell some very pretty ones made for weddings. I will be having one as well due to some untrustworthy family members

I wouldn’t be offended. With the group of people we’re inviting to our wedding, I’m doing to have one on mine simply because someone would get the idea to hide it at the end of the night when everyone is drunk and wouldn’t remember what they did with it and we’d never see it again.

I think it depends on how big is your wedding. Our wedding is 45 guest and they are all close fam and friends that we trust. If you have a big wedding in a big venue, I think is smart for you to add a lock to it. You may disguise the lock with flowers or a ribbon to not make it so obvious. If your gut is telling you to add a lock, then go for it.

This is actually advised on here to do so, or at least have a card box that is difficult to get into. Even if you have a small wedding, you don't know the servers and all the other vendors who will be around all day. You'll never know if Aunt Gretchen gave you that $200 cash. . .and you can't ask her about it.

Its practical. We didn't like the set-up for the ones that we found so we are using an old mailbox. Repainted it after we had it sealed with just a slot for them to be able to slide the cards into it. If you are worried about the lock there are some reasonably priced options that have hidden locks on the bottom that your guests wouldn't see unless they were trying to get into it.

We had a large tiered card box that I made. It wasn’t locked but was large enough that nobody could just grab it. They would have had to take it apart. Definitely not tacky! It’s better to be safe than sorry.

I think it's a safer option. After hearing about some horror stories, doing the same.

I don't think it's tacky, you're safeguarding yourself from potentially uncomfortable discussions if cards go missing. If any guests ask you can lie and say it was recommended by your venue - ours actually has cameras on our gift table throughout the night as a CYA kind of thing.

If we weren't inviting people who are bringing plus ones that we probably won't know, then we probably wouldn't get a card box with a lock on it.

We’re going to get a locked box. But in our culture all the wedding gifts are monetary so that’s why we will be making sure it’s locked

If you're worried about people seeing the lock, they do make covers that go over the entire box and hide the lock
