Locked card box- tacky or practical?

AllieB25, on January 17, 2018 at 8:27 PM

We are thinking about purchasing a card box with a lock on it for our gift table. I'm not super worried about anyone we're inviting taking anything, but I like the idea of a precaution just in case. Would you see this as tacky if you were a guest? Are you thinking about doing something similar?

Never even thought of this. Thanks for your post!!! I now am definitely going to look for a locked one. Any suggestions on good stores?

Get a locked one and decorate it with flowers or something that goes with your theme so you can't tell that it has a lock?

It's practical. I had bought a card box already without a lock by the time I heard the horror stories of stolen cards. I hope. Itching was taken from our box, but 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Does anyone know of any places to get a cute large locked card box? On Etsy they only have rustic themed ones.

We got a locked one. I don't distrust my family and friends, the box I liked best just happened to have a lock. The lock looks like an old school journal lock so if some one really wants to steal my cards they could probably just break the lock and snatch it. I'm not super worried about it thought.

I bought one that locked. I don't think its tacky at all, especially considering some of the horror stories...

I built my card box (wood) and installed a baby proofing cabinet lock on the inside. No one can see it and it unlocks with a magnetic key. They also sell pretty locks on Amazon. I know everyone says that they trust their guests, but you don't know everyone. My parents went to a wedding where the bride's uncle took some cards! A simple lock prevents someone from quickly grabbing a handful of cards.

Ours was a wood box from Etsy that only had a slot on the side for cards to go into. The only way to open it up was to turn it upside down, take a screwdriver to it, and once you got the screw out, you could remove the bottom panel.

I'm making sure ours is locked and it's my parents job to take the card box at the end of the night. Unfortunately there is someone within my FH & I's families that has a drug problem so I'm not taking any chances.

Where did you find a tool box that had a slit in it like that?

We’re also going to get a locked card box, I personally don’t think it’s tacky at all. Our venue owner actually suggested it because of how some of her weddings went in the past. They make really cute ones on Etsy!

Yes!! Give it a try. I got the boxes off Amazon and just went to Walmart for fabric. There are YouTube videos to help guide you. Good luck! In the end nobody pays attention to details. I don’t think anyone paid any attention to it. HaHa!

Back when birdcages were popular I used to wait until after cocktail hour and then place the cards in the locked Bridal room. If you go with an unlocked option maybe see if your DOC or Mom will do something like that for you. That way they’re already in your purse at the end of the night.

They may not, but I'LL appreciate my handiwork when it's done!! My "craft room" is my unfinished basement and it's been so cold I avoid going down there except for laundry, so it'll happen in the spring Smiley smile
