Lipstick that won't transfer

Liz, on August 16, 2019 at 12:30 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 5 63

Hello. My wedding is in a month and I am wondering which lipsticks you went with for your wedding.

I had a makeup trial and took engagement pics. The lip color I had on was custom made by my makeup artist but after taking so many pictures (including pictures of us kissing) my lipstick wore off.

I would love to hear suggestions of lipstick brands or even colors that was used in weddings that didn't transfer.

I'm Chinese and we have a tradition where every time someone taps on glass the couple has to kiss. Our group of friends are notorious for doing that at weddings so I want to prepare to make sure my lipstick won't fade too easily or transfer to my FH's lips Smiley laugh

I feel you! After I had my trial, I ate my lipstick along with my dinner! Lol

I know right? I actually bought some lipsticks over a span of the past maybe 4-6 months and none of them seem to have potential to withstand even just drinking tea and water throughout the day.

I am usually not one to wear matte lipstick but I heard this holds well for weddings and is recommended. I just haven't found one that isn't drying or doesn't transfer.

I've tried Tarteist Lip Paint and that one stays on decent but is very drying.

I've also tried NYX Soft Matte Lip but it comes off easily. Comfortable but definitely comes off pretty easily.

For drugstore brand I have tried Milani Adore Matte Lip Cream and it is so hard to take off. But again very drying.

Hoping I can find a good balance. lol

I have NOT found a lipstick that actually stays on me after I eat! This has always been a problem of mine. Matte looks good but my lips tend to get dry with those.

BTW, FH and I are both Asian as well. I hope nobody does that glass thing! I would hate that! LoL

I've had great luck with Covergirl outlast and Revlon color stay. If you find a lipstick color you like, i'd suggest getting a matching lip pencil and collor in your lips with it. A more matte type lasts longer, at least for me

Haha trust me they WILL Smiley laugh . I think every Asian wedding they have done that.

One of my friends said that at one wedding every time they clinked, they rolled a dice. I think each face was a different option. One was the couple kiss, another was a couple other than the bride/groom had to kiss, ect. So it kind of made people NOT want to have the dice tossed haha.

But we probably won't do that. If it becomes excessive we might just ignore lol!

The Kylie brands are good in my experience. Lipsense is also a brand that was made specifically for this reason!

MAC has some matte lipsticks with some staying power but it has to be matte or retro matte, not satin/creme/ect. Ruby Woo is like smearing your mouth with a crayon but that color isn’t going anywhere. I’ve definitely eaten dinner with that one.

I've heard mixed reviews about Kylie brands. But I haven't seen Lipsense. I have heard of it though. I actually like in Foothill Ranch where the Headquarters where Senegence is located lol. Maybe I'll consider trying it Smiley smile

Oh thats great. I actually am not one to wear lipstick. I only wear chapstick and even then its not the tinted kinds haha. I am minimal when it comes to makeup so I've been relying on my makeup artist. I recently started getting into lashes and I had to ask my makeup artist for my wedding for recommendations for lash glue since it kept lifting from the ends Smiley laugh .

Hope you find the perfect makeup for your wedding day!

Oh yeah, I've seen that online as a popular color for brides. To me its a little too bright red for me. I'm used to just chapstick on most days and nude color lipsticks for events.

I do want something that isn't in the neutral family and a hint of red but definitely not something bright red.

Jefree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks! This is what I’ll be wearing on my wedding day. It comfortable, not as drying as other liquid lipsticks and once set isn’t going anywhere! He has mini bundles where you get a few mini lipsticks in a range of colors. Beautylish has them on sale today! Good luck with your wedding!

I’m super into PDA so I rarely wear lipstick. I love lip stains because I can kiss without transfer! I love the YSL lip stain at Sephora. Even if you buy it just once I love the wand on it because you can really get a great line and shape with it. I also have the Makeup Forever lip stains which are okay. If you want a wide range of colors Sephora’s line of their brand has great colors

Oh yeah it is BRIGHT, pin up red. I only wear it for hot dates because I’m so pale it’s far too bright on me.
My go to color is actually Please Me because most days I don’t wear more than chapstick either. It’s just this warm pink that lights up my face. I’m not sure if they have a hint of red color in Matte but it wouldn’t surprise me.

I’m also on the hunt for the perfect wedding lipstick so if I find anything better I’ll let you know!

Yeah I am pretty pale too and bright reds I feel like make me look even more ghostly haha.

I actually tried this liquid lip from NARS in the color American Woman. Its a nice toned down red. The formula is a bit watery though so it a bit hard to apply and it transfers. I even tried to wait 15 min to see if I just need to wait for it to dry down but it still transferred. I heard it wears off nicely and I could see that but for a wedding where kissing is involved, its not something I can use Smiley sad.

I also heard ABH was a good brand. I have been interested in trying that. My cousin actually gave me a $100 gift card to Ulta for my bridal shower and since ABH brand is at Ulta and definitely affordable as compared to other "prestige brands" I'll probably give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestion Smiley smile

I've also had luck with Revlon color stay. I put on a coat then pat my lips with a paper towel and apply another coat. It stays most of the day and doesn't get on FH.
