Lighting for Evening Wedding

Cass, on July 4, 2019 at 3:13 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

Hello! I have a concern. I will be having my wedding this October (I hope the weather will be pleasant) beginning the late afternoon and possibly ending at night. It will be outdoor, and I will have market lights hung up for that romantic ambiance and will have lots of candles for that subtle lighting. However, I don't know what to use to light the dessert, food, and drink stations that will be strong enough so that people can see at night.

Has anyone had an outdoor night wedding? If so, what did you use to light the different stations? What are some budget-friendly options?

Thanks!

Good question! I don’t have an answer because I totally haven’t thought about the lighting for food and drink areas yet! Hopefully someone has some good advice 😂

Some little lanterns hung on delicate poles, or fairy lights tat are battery operated strung around table, and on the poles to give it a soft glow....

Our venue has lighting for the outdoor part of the space. It also won't get dark until around 8:30pm that night.

Check with your venue or caterer? This won't be the first time they've had an evening wedding. You may have to rent some lighting for that.

    Hey Cass!!

I would recommend having a lot of market string lights, as once it starts getting dark, you will definitely need them all!

As for additional lighting, I found this image on Pinterest that I thought could work for you.

As you can see, there is uplighting around the walls and pillars adding extra light around the venue and then is concealed using tulle and drape to disguise the starkness of it. Would something like this work for your venue?

I’m renting market lights, and the guy in renting lights from suggested something called a lighting tree, but I don’t like the look of it. It’s very bulky and the lighting is harsh, and he would charge me $85 for one... I’m trying to look for something that isn’t as harsh and is more affordable. The reception will be at my church’s parking lot, and I’m not having a caterer, so they wouldn’t really be able to help me with that.
