Lighthearted wedding readings

winnipegwriter, on March 11, 2015 at 3:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

We're not religious in the least and are trying to keep our ceremony lighthearted (but still a touch romantic). It will be short (about 10 minutes) but our officiant would like us to incorporate one or two brief readings in there.

Does anyone have any readings they used/are using or any resources that could point me in the right direction? I've tried Google but keep seeing the same readings over and over again.

Bonus points if they're literary readings. FH and I are both avid readers.

Tanx.

This is one of the ones we used:

    From Jane Eyre By

Charlotte Bronte "I have for the first time found what I can truly love–I have found you. You are my sympathy–my better self–my good angel–I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wrap my existence about you–and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one."

From The Amber Spyglass, By Phillip Pullman

“I will love you forever; whatever happens. Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, I’ll drift about forever, all my atoms, till I find you again… I’ll be looking for you, every moment, every single moment. And when we do find each other again, we’ll cling together so tight that nothing and no one’ll ever tear us apart. Every atom of me and every atom of you… We’ll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pine trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams… And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won’t just be able to take one, they’ll have to take two, one of you and one of me.”

We also read an excerpt from "Everything I need to know I learned in Kindergarten"

Following! Looking for a non-religious reading also. I have one on my laptop that I'm considering. I'll post it when I get home!

Thanks, ladies! @JDubs, I've actually been eyeing that one for a while! I think I'll pitch it to FH.

We're struggling to figure out the same thing! We want to keep our ceremony super short--all eyes on us is not our favorite situation--but we want to be fun and meaningful in a short and sweet way. Following!

There are about 500 readings here, from religious to funny and back again.

Personally, I like 'falling in love is like owning a dog", if you have one....and there is a great one from Game of Thrones on there too.
