License Vs. Ceremony Anniversary

I had a friend get married this past weekend, but they got their marriage licenses like 3 days before so they didn't have to worry about it on their honeymoon. This caused an uproar in her family and caused panic about having "two different anniversaries" and prompted an aunt to have a meltdown because she had made a whole bunch of memory art things with their wedding date on them and "will have to attempt to alter the dates since you actually got married on a different date". I was wondering if this was common and how people handled it? I never really thought about it before.

Do you celebrate the day on your marriage license or the day of your ceremony?

In Florida, the form has 3 sections: top is application for license, middle is license to marry (which authorizes me to marry them within the dates indicated), and marriage certificate at the bottom (which I sign).

okay so my girlfriend and I live in Arkansas, we are planning on getting married in a year. We want our anniversary to be on October 31st, which this is the date that I asked her to be my girlfriend. We would like to have our wedding in the springtime because of how pretty the trees, flowers and plants will be in the area of where we want the wedding to be. Also the weather will not be too cold or too hot at this time. What if we get our marriage license sign and have our officiant sign and date the license on October 31st, so will that make it our official anniversary? If so could we still have our wedding ceremony in the spring for our friends and family to enjoy without us signing the papers? Will this change our anniversary date by doing this?

Haha omg I love that comment. My fiancé keeps responding with that same sentiment whenever someone is rude or overly obsessed with their own view of the world “sounds like she’s from your wedding forums”

I am currently trying to figure out the same. We want it on our regular anniversary date which is a week day but have the wedding ceremony later that weekend to spend with family. I don't think it would be weird personally but i don't know how the ceremony would work. I still would want it to be genuine or do i just cut it out and only do a reception?

Legally you are married on the day the paperwork is signed and dated. You apply for your license ahead of the date of the actual marriage, then usually it is signed on site after the vows are said. However some people opt to sign documents ahead of time for convenience. We considered just signing our papers at our City Hall so we could have a friend perform our ceremony without having to worry about anyone becoming a JP, but then we would have had to do that during the week and our ceremony is on a Saturday. I didn't want to have two different wedding dates so we went through the extra work of having one of our wedding guests become a JP just so it could all be done legally on the same day without hiring an officiant.

Thank you everyone that responded to the original question. My fiance and I talked about eloping before the ceremony so we don't have to worry about the paperwork. However that would mean the date we elope would be the anniversary not the day of the wedding celebration. I wanted to do that but I don't want two wedding dates and custom gifts with the wrong date -> then again with COVID we've had a lot of friends get legally married one day and the ceremony months later. Maybe if everyone is aware of our actual anniversary it will be okay?
