So as I have mentioned I am in a same sex relationship and obviously we are getting married. I just received a phone call from a photographer that I had been emailing and they told me “We don’t shoot same sex weddings. Marriage is for a man and a woman.” I am appalled and disgusted! I hung up on her. She told me at the beginning of the phone call she was calling because what she had to say she didn’t want to say in an email. My future wife says “yeah we will get a lot of that” like it’s no big deal, but I am not okay with it! Sorry for the rant I just needed some place to get it out.

I have no issue with her right to refuse service and I would have been fine if she would have said that no I don't shoot same sex weddings or something along those lines. What made me mad is that she then went on to tell me how marriage is only for a man and a woman and then tried to preach at me.

100% that is why she called because she didn't want me to have actual proof that she said what she said. It is disgusting!

I completely agree. It is so hard with where I am located to find anyone who has same sex couple experience. It isn't really common in my area so I think for photography I am going to have to up the budget and have someone travel!

That is what I thought, but I wasn't 100% sure. I have left reviews everywhere I could and I am reporting her to WW now!

I agree! I wouldn't have been upset at all if she would have said that she was uncomfortable doing a same sex wedding even. Instead she took it to another whole level and tried to tell me she was "doing it out of love"

I am doing the media shaming most definitely! She isn't worth the lawsuit threat lol. I am reporting her all of the places I could as well as left reviews in all of the other places to let people know!

I'm sorry that happened to you. In my opinion, everyone is entitled to have their own conceptions of marriage and to act accordingly. Marriage is a sacred thing to everyone, I think "live and let live" involves letting anyone legally marry while also letting people have private views about the nature of marriage and choose which weddings to attend/work at. If someone isn't comfortable shooting your wedding, you definitely don't want them there.

Trust me I get that. I really think the world (especially the wedding world) should be further than what it is. Just know that you and your fiancée will still have an amazing wedding day and that this soon to be insignificant jerk of a photographer will not rain on this parade

Hmmm I didn't know. I thought privately owned businesses could refuse the right. I could be wrong.

You are both half right. There is no federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. There are state and local laws in many places that do prohibit it. There are also many places that prohibit discrimination based on SOGI in "essential" services like housing, employment, banking, and medical care, but not in the service sector, or that have state-based policies with religious exemptions.
