So as I have mentioned I am in a same sex relationship and obviously we are getting married. I just received a phone call from a photographer that I had been emailing and they told me “We don’t shoot same sex weddings. Marriage is for a man and a woman.” I am appalled and disgusted! I hung up on her. She told me at the beginning of the phone call she was calling because what she had to say she didn’t want to say in an email. My future wife says “yeah we will get a lot of that” like it’s no big deal, but I am not okay with it! Sorry for the rant I just needed some place to get it out.

Sadly that is her right to deny a client but it is sad that ignorance is still out there. You have every right to be upset but ya know what I see it as a sign that someone better is going to come along that will support your marriage no matter what and probably be a better photographer. Forget her and karma will get her. You two keep being you because love is love.

That is freaking terrible are you kidding me!? I am appalled for you both, I am so sorry you had to deal with that experience! I really hope you find someone much better than her who will capture everything the way you envisioned it!

Leave a google review so people (even straight couples) know how rude she is! If I saw that review on someone I was considering for a photographer it would be a big no! She’d probably treat my sister and her wife like crap! Now Technically she has the right to refuse service to anyone but she definitely didn’t need to say it like that! That was highly unprofessional and extremely rude of her! In my opinion you dodged a bullet. You don’t want someone who disagrees with your relationship shooting your wedding.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. While I believe vendors should be more accepting; but many aren’t. I don’t agree with it, but people in the service industry have the right to pick and choose who they want to serve. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but as your FW noted it won’t be the first and sadly it probably won’t be the last.
I only hope within my lifetime we’ll see more change and accept all.
What this person did is very wrong, they could’ve just said no, sorry they are booked.

That is completely uncalled for! There are lawsuits against that behavior. So sorry that you're having to deal with that ignorance.

Out of curiosity I did a quick Google search for LGBQT+ vendors by state and came across these:https://www.pridezillas.com/search-united-states/

    I am so, so sorry.

While I am not part of the LGBTQIA+ community, I specifically chose a photographer who featured same-sex couples and people of different races and religions in her portfolio.

I'm not sure how you're conducting your vendor search, but I am in a local wedding-related FB group where people post searching for various vendors all the time. Many of them ask that the service provider be LGBTQIA+ friendly, and they always seem to get a great response.
If you're looking at websites and/or Instagram, I would definitely keep an eye out for what kind of representation they have in their work.
That information may also be in an FAQ or about section. My photographer's site mentions that she is a photographer for "all couples."

Oh I understand they have a right to deny and I expect that. The part that I am mad and disgusted about is how she told me marriage is for a man and a woman and kept trying to preach at me before I hung up.

I'm so sorry this was your experience. I also wanted to ask if you got this photographer from Wedding Wire? All vendors are supposed to be LGBTQIA+ friendly so you can report them to the administrators.

I completely understand the right to pick and choose and I expected to be turned down. But it’s the comment about marriage is for a man and woman that just got under my skin. If she would’ve just said no sorry it goes against my values to shoot a same sex wedding I wouldn’t have been mad at all.

I’m sorry that there are still ignorant people out there that don’t support couples like us. We had a similar situation with a venue. They like to say it over the phone so you can’t screenshot. I would definitely leave reviews on Google, Facebook, and wherever else you can find them. If they have a WW profile, report it. Vendors are required to be LGBTQ+ friendly to advertise here. Anyway. Try to look on the bright side, you don’t want people like them at your wedding anyway.

Yes I did get their information from WW. I wasn’t aware that they were supposed to all be LGBTQIA+ friendly! That is good to know!

I will be reporting them since I found them on WW and I am trying to look on the bright side and think now we can continue to look for someone who will support us and capture us best!

Ugh the worst, I’m sorry! Surprisingly, we didn’t get a lot of that and we’re in Florida. In initial emails to venders we stated that it was a same-sex wedding. That way, if they had a problem, they could just not respond and mind their own business.
