Let the "Where's my invite?!" commence

KM, on January 26, 2015 at 10:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 43

Invites have been received...two already posted on social media, and one "Why didn't I get one?!" question asked.

Joy.

We only allowed ourselves to invite 1 or 2 people each that we met while living in Alabama last year. I picked one person when I could have easily picked a few, and that ONE person posted it on IG...so I was just waiting for the comments. The girl who asked would have been #2, but we seriously just don't have room in our budget for even one more person.

Ah yes... We were bombarded with that when we got engaged. "I better get an invite!" bitch please. I haven't spoken to you outside of FB in 2 years. Hell no you're not invited. We have no shame in flat out telling people they're not invited though. Either that or we completely ignore them.

Yes, Denise, but other people post about it on FB anyway, even if you don't. We had a ton of family, who were obviously invited, make comments on FB that caused some unwelcome self invites. We had to politely say no, or just ignore them as others said. It sucks.

Pretty soon it will be a standard to put a notice in with the invite that says "We are having an unplugged invitation. Please do not post about this invitation on social media."

I had to tell more than a few people to take the save the date off of facebook. I realized then that trying to stop them from doing it with the invite was futile.

Oh I had this today too. My father passed a few weeks ago and one of my Mom's long lost cousins I would not recognize on a corner came to dad's wake. They had to tell me who they were then. I posted on FB about mailing out invites, and she was like " are we getting one?" Uh sure, PM your address. No address received yet. ugh.

I don't cancel my Facebook because of a few rude people that think its okay to ask to be invited to a wedding, I just either ignore or tell them "sorry we actually over invited...my family is just soo big!!!" Lets do coffee? ...and then I don't hear back from them... (becuase why would I, they didn't talk to me for 2 years before the wedding post...)

I think only one person posted their save the date on facebook. It was a college friend, and we only invited the college friends we still keep in touch with, so a few others may have been upset but we didn't hear about it. Hoping everyone keeps their invitations to themselves, but we will see.

Mine go out in 3 weeks, and I'm expecting several of those. I am very good at pressing the ignore button.

The best part of this is (at least in my experience) that the people who straight up ask for an invite are the ones who...

    a) you give in to and ask for their address only for them to never get it to you

    b) you send them an invite and they don't RSVP at all

    c) you send them an invite, they RSVP Yes and then don't show - ending up costing you hundreds of dollars in food and drink.

    People Suck.

@Sarahdell - for your last item (c) - it makes you almost think that maybe that mother who invoiced the child for not showing up to her kids birthday party was on to something! Maybe too intense for 14 Pounds and it being a little kid but you know the whole idea behind it.

For the record I would never do this, but it would be darn tempting.
