Legal Ceremony before our "real" Wedding

Tiffany, on September 16, 2019 at 4:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone else has done this, and what's your opinion?

My FH and I are getting married in four weeks. We decided to have his close friend be the "officiant" but he's not legally an officiant. Instead, we are going to go to the courthouse to get legally married a couple weeks before the actual ceremony in front of our family & friends. We both feel that the wedding ceremony will be what we consider our wedding date, and the process at the courthouse is just that, a legal process.

With that said, California requires a ceremony at the courthouse in order to be legal. What is your opinion on attire? I don't want to make a deal of the courthouse ceremony because I want our wedding ceremony to be the "real" wedding... But I'm also not sure if I just want to show up in my typical jeans and tee. LOL. Maybe a dress. But not white?

We are doing the same but for the date of our legal ceremony which we will recognize, the big day will be the day we celebrated with friends and family. We have a friend that is licensed so he's going to meet us in our favorite town to do a quick ceremony and sign the paperwork. We aren't making a big deal out of this one but I will be in the dress pictured below so I still feel like a bride while we walk through town after making it official. I say make it whatever you want!

I did. I was having a hard time finding something, so my FW described what she thought I would gravitate toward and I had in in my cart in 10 minutes. lol She was so right!

That's awesome - she's got good taste and knows you well! Haha maybe I should make my FH pick out what I should wear. He buys all my clothes because I have zero style LOL!

LOL She almost never picks my clothes because I'm way more adventurous than her but sometimes it works. Since it's not THE dress I enjoyed getting her input. She did give me the inspiration for THE dress too so who am I kidding?!?!

Why not just have your friend get ordained online? Then you only need one ceremony.

We decided not to worry about making him ordained.

So I'm in a state where it's really hard and impractical for a friend to get ordained online. When we were looking for officiants to marry us, we found at least one person who advertised that for a discounted rate, they would come to you on the day of your wedding, legally marry you quickly and sign everything, and then you can have your friend or someone not ordained do the ceremony, so you still have your wedding date on your marriage license but can have anyone perform the "ceremony". Just another thing to consider.
