Laughably Bad Wedding Advice

Has anyone else gotten any really bad wedding advice through the planning process? I figure we could all use a laugh. 1. My FMIL told me that "invitations don't go out until 2 weeks before the wedding." Another friend told me, "you know that invitations don't go out unti six weeks before the wedding...

1. My FMIL told me that "invitations don't go out until 2 weeks before the wedding." Another friend told me, "you know that invitations don't go out unti six weeks before the wedding tops, right?"

2. My FMIL and FFIL...and FSIL1...and mom...and pop...alllllll tried to get us to do a Money Dance...Because, "you can make $800 doing that!" This is after we'd already said: first, no...and second, we're having 40 people tops and 31 of them are under the age of 30 (we broke as shit).

3. I was told by a friend that we should send out as many invitations as possible to "people we know won't come so we get more presents and money."

I think my mom has done at least half of these things - most recently (like Tuesday) she pulled a #3 from original post and sent me a SHOWER guest list of over 100 people, 100 of JUST her friends. I hadn't even added anyone I wanted to invited or FHs sisters and mother. Ummm no.

She thinks photography and shoes for me for he wedding are a waste but thinks it's really important to have koozies so there won't be beer bottles everywhere and personalized wraps on water bottles and strongly recommends I go with all of these ideas.

I'm having a tough time time finding the right cake in my budget. BM said, we can totally make 150 cupcakes the day before the wedding, easy peasy! Um, no!

FHs coworker told us to have a backyard wedding with a potluck dinner. We both shut that down right away.

Only one I got was from my mom. She asked me to invite my aunt, even though my aunt already declared to her a few weeks prior that she does not want to be invited because it's my second marriage, and second marriages don't mean anything.

My sister has repeatedly suggested having her friend make my wedding cake. All the cakes I have ever tried from her have been horrible and she doesn't work as a baker so in most venues, expecially mine, I wouldn't be able to use her anyway.

One of my friends "you don't need a wedding planner that's what your maid of honor is for"

My FH wants to put everyone to work lol he wanted to just " give someone a nice camera" and threw groomzilla like fits about me hiring a pro photographer. He has wanted to bake the cake, have friends and family do our flowers and act as coordinators *le sigh*

FMIL told us that "catering the wedding is too expensive, we'll just have all the guests bring a dish. We are all good cooks." Uhhh, No.

-My mom told me veils are mandatory (HAHA!)

-Was also told Bridal Showers are mandatory and paid for by the WP (NOPE)

-You can't put your MOH in the same dress but different color from the rest of the BM. MOH wears the same color but different dress.

-The garter and bouquet toss are mandatory.

-Doing a first look before the ceremony is a curse...

-STD's only need to be sent out 2 weeks before you send out the invitations...

    My personal favorite

-You're too fat for strapless and corset. You're a bigger person you have to be completely covered otherwise you won't look good

Is the dollar dance a bad thing now? Almost all the weddings I've DJ-ed and attended have had one! We're not planning to (not even having a dance) but I didn't think it was so bad!
