Late night snacks

Monica, on April 12, 2018 at 9:07 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

I've never been to a wedding with late night snacks, but I know that's a thing now. We are doing a 5 hour open bar, a 2 entree buffet, cupcakes for dessert, and o'derves during cocktail hour. Do we really need late night snacks? It will be an extra 1500$ for just like a couple finger food things for each guest. About 50% of our guests drink quite heavily so my only reasoning would be to help prevent drunk driving, but then again, I don't really know if that would really prevent drunk driving since you can't control people's choices.

The buffet is up from 7-8:30, FH and FH and I leave the event at 10:45, the event technically ends at 11:30 but we are planning to close to bar around 10:30. Should I do the late night snack in regards to the people that drink? FMIL also said she would provide pizza at the hotel for the ones who stay, but there's also a hotel shuttle so I'm not worried about the people at the hotel as much as the people with a long drive home that didn't stop drinking after dinner.

Is it worth it in regards to possibly prevent drunk driving?

A snack at 10 isn’t going to sober someone up who is too drunk to drive. You can certainly do a snack if you want, but that shouldn’t be your reasoning.

I don't think it's necessary. You're providing a ton! They can figure out extra food if they need to like any other night they would go out. I have been to some weddings that do this and of course it's nice but I still go to plenty that don't. I don't think it's necessary at all. Simply up to you!

I don't think it's necessary at all. We did it in part as a "favor" for people to bag up and take with them and because it's only add $400.

If it's not in your budget skip it

We only have a late night snack because it was included in the package we chose at our venue. If it wasn't included we would have skipped it, its not necessary to have.

That snack won't be a sobering up option.

We are doing a snack, but because this is also our favors. Ours are donuts, chocolate covered pretzels & oreos, brownies and cookies.

I wasn't aware late night snacks were a normal thing and I've never attended a wedding with one. I'd say you're good without!

I think $1500 sounds high for junk food, in my opinion. We will just be doing cake/desserts and then probably grab late night food at PJ Whelihan's across the street from our hotel.

Ha! I read $150 at 1st and was thinking, what a bargain, go for it. But an extra $1500... nope, that's a whole other line item in the budget. We may do it but only looking at around an extra $400. And it will not sober up people, people need to be responsible and designate a driver earlier in the night. It is not your responsibility to "sober up" people. Closing the bar a little earlier is a good idea.

Thanks, I feel much better about not doing this now. My mom was concerned and mentioned the snacks so at first I was like oh yeah we have to do this, but after hearing you all say that it's not that common and won't sober anyone up I don't see the point as much.

And yeah Mags, if anything, I feel like giving people a snack helps them justify their drunk driving, so I'm hoping that everyone is responsible enough to have a DD for the ones who aren't staying at the hotel and using the shuttle.

I'm always hungry at weddings after dancing, and for that reason alone, thats why we are doing it.

    6:30-7:30pm - cocktail hour

    7:30pm - 8:45pm - Dinner

    9pm - desserts

11pm - late night snacks, two types of sliders, truffle fries, tots

I've gone to two weddings that had late night snacks, and they were not advertised very well when they were placed out - so most people didn't see them or they were too busy dancing. We decided not to do them because we figured the same thing would happen and it would end up being a waste of money.

We're going to do cheeseburger sliders and french fries as a late night snack, mostly because we were looking for more ways to inject our personality while still having a traditional vibe! I think they're fun, but obviously optional and add additional cost

Def not necessary but fun add on if it’s in the budget. We’re adding on a donut bar late night snack because it’s literally $300 extra and that’s a steal for how many guests we have. Includes to-go bags, decor, whatever flavors we want, and we don’t have to worry about set up or breakdown.

I don't think its necessary. I have considered ice cream options when i see them. Always room for ice cream! But the sliders and nacho stations and heavy food most of my guests wouldn't be able to eat that too for the amount of hours of reception we have. Most would go to waste.

I say no....if you have the extra money and wish to use it for this then it’s fine....if money is tight then no. Also, if the only reason to provide this is for the drinking and to stop drunk driving that will never happen. Only the person drinking can prevent that and they have to decide if they have been drinking to drive or not.

    Yes, 12am!

No after party, or if so it will be organic.
