Late night snacks

I've never been to a wedding with late night snacks, but I know that's a thing now. We are doing a 5 hour open bar, a 2 entree buffet, cupcakes for dessert, and o'derves during cocktail hour. Do we really need late night snacks? It will be an extra 1500$ for just like a couple finger food things for each guest. About 50% of our guests drink quite heavily so my only reasoning would be to help prevent drunk driving, but then again, I don't really know if that would really prevent drunk driving since you can't control people's choices.

The buffet is up from 7-8:30, FH and FH and I leave the event at 10:45, the event technically ends at 11:30 but we are planning to close to bar around 10:30. Should I do the late night snack in regards to the people that drink? FMIL also said she would provide pizza at the hotel for the ones who stay, but there's also a hotel shuttle so I'm not worried about the people at the hotel as much as the people with a long drive home that didn't stop drinking after dinner.

Is it worth it in regards to possibly prevent drunk driving?

It's a big deal around here for evening weddings but people often order in junk like McDonalds or a food truck or something like that. Nothing expensive or fancy. It's always savory food, not sweets.

Its definitely not necessary nor will it stop people from getting drunk. We are doing a dessert bar with bags labeled midnight snack on them so people can grab what they want for later. We are also having an after party at a historic DC landmark Ben's Chili bowl where we'll have sliders and wings but people will buy their own drinks. That way if people wanna stay and party they can.

Don't worry about it, food doesn't help after you've already gotten inebriated, you need to eat before or during the imbibing part for it to do any good.

I'm convinced the late night snack craze is a trend started by the catering industry to add an unnecessary expense. If you already have apps, a buffet, and dessert, I personally would not be hungry enough to eat more later! I don't think people expect end-of-night snacks and if they get hungry and want pizza post-event, they can order it themselves.

We are talking about doing a popcorn bar as a late night snack. I think that would be an inexpensive option of your venue would allow it

$1500 for a late night snack? that seems crazy high! I would definitely be skipping it if it costs that much. We are doing soft pretzels and cheese and it is about $300. I don't think late night snacks are necessary at all.. especially if they aren't in the budget.
