Last Minute Groom's Attire

Heather, on May 23, 2019 at 11:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 2

FH is a difficult person to clothes shop for. He's just not shaped like most clothes expect him to be. (Very broad shoulders and neck, long torso, shorter arms and legs than apparently most people with the rest of those measurements.) He also hates clothes shopping in general, and it's always an ordeal to find something that fits him in store, so we took measurements and ordered online. It finally came in tonight and... nothing fits. The shirt collar fits but everything else looks like a balloon. The pants are the right inseam, but I'm pretty sure they just straight up sent the wrong waist size (way too big). The vest is the right length and width but also too loose.

We are 13 days out from this wedding. Because of ridiculous overtime work schedules, the earliest we could address this is Monday, at which point we'll have 9 days. Obviously this is our fault, both for letting it get this close and ordering online, but it'd be ideal if he didn't look like he was wearing someone else's clothes. On a scale of workable to completely hopeless, how screwed are we? Do we have enough time for significant alterations? Go to a Men's Warehouse or something and hope for the best? I am out of my league here.

(Also not helping - my brother informed me last night that he bought a custom suit for the wedding. "It's super casual!" I said like 80 times in the last few months. "I know Mom said no jacket but yes tie, but she misunderstood exactly how casual, so don't feel the need to wear a tie!" I said. "I don't even know that FH is going to wear a suit!" I said. Yet here we are. I'm not going to tell him he can't wear it, of course, but FH is irritated, because, "You can't outdress the groom. It's the one rule. You shouldn't be more beautiful than the bride, and you shouldn't outdress the groom." So this is extra less than ideal.)

Get to a good tailor. They can fix what you’ve already bought since it sounds like it is just all too big around. imagine they could get it done in your time frame or you could pay.m a rush fee.

I’m gonna have to defend your brother here. It sounds like he’s in to his clothing and it wasn’t like he was trying to out dress the groom. Be flattered he cared enough to buy a new suit for your wedding!!

Hey Heather! I’m so sorry that your FH’s suit isn’t right!

As the pp mentioned, I think you should bring the clothes that you have already bought a tailor and explain your situation and the need for a quick turn around. There may be a fee for the job to be done quicker, but it would be totally worth it to get it back in time for your wedding! What color is your FH wearing?
