Last kiss before the first kiss

sarah, on January 21, 2012 at 3:54 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

I was watching an episode of Four Weddings the other day and one of the brides did what is called The Last kiss before the First Kiss. I hadn't heard of it before, but fell in love with the idea and am incorporating it into our wedding. Basically the officiate invites the bride and grooms mom up right before he pronounces them husband and wife and they are able to kiss. He explains how these two woman were the first to welcome these kids into the world and kiss them for the first time. Now they will be the last to kiss them in their single life and wish them well into their marriage. It's a really sweet idea and both our moms cried when we told them we'd be putting it into our wedding. I just loved it and wanted to share it with you all! Smiley smile

You can read about it here..

I saw that one and wanted to do it...but right before our last scheduled counseling wit Pastor, where we were supposed to go over ceremony details, his wife had open heart surgery so we had to cancel. I wasn't able to let him know before hand that I wanted to do it...I was pretty bummed :-(

I love this idea! I just might have to use this in our ceremony. Our moms would love it.

We did this. We surprised our moms at rehearsal, but didn't go through the entire thing so they still had a little surprise at the wedding. We had our flower girl give a flower to each grandmother.

P.S. my mom and I are far away from each other because my train was in between us and she didn't want to step on it Smiley smile

Thanks for the post. As an MOB, I have to say this is an incredibly touching idea. If the walk up the aisle with Cate doesn't ruin my make-up, this would do it. During Catholic ceremonies, the rose and kiss are done at the "Sign of Peace". So, I don't think Cate and Dom would do this.

I just talked to my mom about this she asked if I was trying to make her cry. She agreed she would love to do this. I think this would be a great way to recognize them. I think I am still going to give a peacock feather to the mother's and the grandmother's.

I know I'm responding to this about 6 years too late but do you know which episode of "four weddings" this was featured on? I'd love to watch it
