Laid Back Wedding

Megan, on December 27, 2017 at 5:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 16
My fiance and I are very chill, low maintence people and the idea of a big extravagant wedding repulses us. I dont even have an engagement ring because it seems like a waste of money. I'm trying to plan a super fun Halloween wedding with a low budget but I need ideas.

If you like Halloween I know the fake spiderweb stuff goes a long way for no money at all. It especially looks cool with colour changing up lighting for decore.

Pottery Barn, Target to get decorations for the reception. I've heard invitations are very cheap from Michaels.

I’d say elope, and use the money you save to host a kick a*** Halloween party instead!

I'm sure the folks on here who did plan larger weddings will appreciate knowing that their ideas for a great day are repulsive to you. And for what it's worth, I love what my engagement ring symbolizes and would never consider that a waste of money.

Yep love my ring and what it symbolizes. Also love that those nearest and dearest to me were able to witness and celebrate with my DH and me. We had an amazing time.

Do you mean a wedding on Halloween? Because Halloween is a Wednesday this year.

I think venue goes a long way in setting the "vibe" you want. You might want to look into alternative venues - restaurants, funky museums. You can also not do a plated dinner and do more of a less formal cocktail party. This doesn't necessarily equal a lower budget, but that all depends on the choices you make. Venue and food are likely to be the biggest costs, so figure out what you're able/willing to spend and go from there.

@OGGretchen OP didn't call anyone's specific wedding repulsive. She said an idea repulsed her. That's not an attack on an individual. Are we not allowed to state preferences? I don't like diamond rings; I wouldn't call that an insult of anyone else's diamond engagement rings.

How thin skinned are we going to be? Lots of people here have ideas that I think are awful. I can totally understand someone thinking the idea of effectively pouring money into a garbage can can be repulsive. If you didn't grow up with enough money to have "enough", whatever that means to you, it can be downright horrific to see some of the numbers here thrown around.

Doesn't make big expensive weddings horrific- it comes down to frame of reference. Have what you like and what you can afford- but like many of the posters say here, if someone says it, lots of people are likely thinking it.

OP, one of my close friends threw a Halloween wedding and it was amazing. Her dress had dragon wings on it! Are you planning to throw a Halloween party in lieu of a wedding, or get married at one? There are loads of ways to do it cheaply, especially if you do a late night wedding as people won't expect a meal. You could just do whatever you'd normally have at a party like that, probably light snacks and desserts. Maybe some cool coloured signature drinks?

She didn't refer to anyone else's wedding as repulsive, she said the IDEA of a big wedding was repulsive to THEM. I completely don't agree with that sentiment, but nothing she said was offensive or disrespectful to anyone else's choice. That's like me saying I find cheesecake repulsive, and someone who served it at their wedding saying I violated the CGs. Apples to oranges, not the same at all!!!
