Lace Wedding Gowns - How much were your alterations?

Vicki, on July 29, 2012 at 4:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Just curious how much I should expect to pay in alterations on my lace wedding gown. I will be getting estimates from various reputable tailors once the dress comes in, but I would rather have the heart attack now rather than later Smiley smile

I did not do hem to hollow measurements (didn't know it was an option at the time) but I wonder if some of you lovely ladies would mind sharing your costs. I'm most concerned about the cost of bringing up the length.

Here are pics of my dress:

Have the nitro pills handy! That looks complicated (but beautiful).

A friend had a lace dress that needed to be altered. I went with her to have it altered and had to have the lady repeat the price and even then, I still didn't believe it. The cost was $300 to alter the bodice and skirt. The first time. There were additional alterations which cost another $150.

I have a lace dress and the seamstress said that even if I wanted to hem it - she couldn't because it would take away all of the details at the bottom. I ordered mine from Kleinfeld's and they custom made it to my height but it was still a bit long so I just bought extra high heels to accomdate the length. I had the bustle put in and that was 100$. Alterations I've heard of are usually around 500$. Hope that helps!

My dress has lace detail around the bottom. I just had my fitting yesterday and it is going to be 185 for the hem and to take it in at the bust. I figure she is going to have to take off the lace around the edges to do the hem and put it back. Then it is 50 for the bustle. Yeah thought I was going to have a heart attack, I was hoping we wouldn't need to hem it, I was close but don't want to step on the lace and rip it off...so had to do it.

Beautiful gown (Do you have it yet since that's a Chinese site...) but to keep the lace detail around the edge on the bottom they'd have to hem it at the bodice if the seaming allows...and that's a complete work.

Have that heart attack I bet, if it's possible, it's going to be a doozy!

Shannah, while I have no clue if Vicki actually ordered it from there or at a salon, wedding shoppe inc is not a chinese knock off site. It is a legitimate US site that sells authorized designer gowns.

I ordered the dress from a local bridal salon, but MrsO is correct, Wedding Shoppe is a store based out of St. Paul, MN and they are an online retailer. Thank you ladies - I will be hosting a charity donation this fall if anyone wants to come!!! LOL *breeeeaaathe*

When did you place your order? Can you contact your salon and ask them if they can add your hem-to-hollow measurement, so you don't have to have the dress shortened drastically?

Ok, I feel 100% better (and a little stupid for not asking upfront) but I just got off the phone wth the bridal salon to see if they could add a hem-to-hollow length. While they were unable to add it (only 48 hours to make an order change) they told me they have worked with that dress many times and it would be only $180 to alter the length of they dress. Whew!!! I will cancel the heart pills. . . charity is still on though if anyone still wants to party Smiley smile

Your dress is gorgeous. I am glad it worked out for you. My daughter and I also did not know this was an option.

Her seamstress is hemming her lace by pulling it up under the ribbon on her bodice. She is also taking the dress in on both sides, putting in boobs and doing a 7 point under bustle. The total cost is $240. I didn't consider that costly at all considering the detail involved.

I love Wedding Shop for dress photos too!

For my dress, I needed to take in the top and add a bustle. It ended up being $210. The seamstress said she needed to remove the lace, fix the size, and relay the lace. There is also lots of beading on my dress as well, though.

VIcki....What a small world it is! I thought your dress looked like a Casablanca. She loves Casablanca too! #1999 is actually a 2010 design. I had a difficult time tracking it down for her. She lives in FL and is coming home to Philly for the wedding. She was looking for a Maggie, but she found them to be too heavy for an August wedding.

My dress needed to be hemmed, taken in at the bust, and bustled (which is actually a double bust because, like yours, it has a lace overlay. So the satin in bustled and the lace is bustled seperately). My alterations cost $345.
