Labor Day wedding?

Lauren, on October 25, 2016 at 1:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Alright, so we have a church set up for 10/7/17 but originally we wanted one particular venue that I really love. FH got a new job and his parents actually offered to pay for the venue so we can book the one we originally wanted. The only problem is that there are no Saturday dates available now and the only Friday we could do is September 8th. Labor Day is on the 4th so this is after the three day weekend.

Most guests are in town and we'd be starting late enough they wouldn't need to take the day off but for out of town family do you think this new date would be an issue?

For out of town family, yes it might be a problem. Or it might not. Look, you never know which way the wind is going to blow with these things. If you love the venue, you're happy with the date, then book it.

ETA: and technically this wouldn't be a Labor Day weekend wedding.

There will always be someone with a conflict to any date you pick. If you love the venue and are ok with that date then go for it.

We chose to avoid 7/6/18 for this very reason (with the 4th of July, obviously). Luckily, we had other dates available that month. I don't think it would be a huge issue since most of your guests are local. Make sure to send Save the Dates to your out of town guests about 6 months before so they can plan.

Just check with the people you can't imagine having a wedding without them. If they can all make it, go for it! You just might get a few more people that can't come because it's a Friday and not a Saturday.

Friday 9/8/17 is my date !! Personally, I'd much prefer not to go to a wedding on Labor day weekend since that is already a holiday off, I can use it to do something else. I'd rather use a vacation day to go on an out of town wedding a different time.

Labor Day Weekend bride here! I think it depends on how far away your OOT guests are and how late your wedding will be. If people can get home at a decent time, I don't think it will be problem.

Keep in mind school starts back up for most universities and things after Labor Day, also a lot of people travel around those weeks.
