Kohl's Registry Nightmare

Monica SC, on August 31, 2015 at 12:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

So, I am getting call, texts and emails from people who purchased items off our Kohl's registry recently saying that the items they ordered were shipped to someone named Alex Valdez in California. Only one person so far has gotten a new item shipped out to her actual home address, and she just messaged me to let me know what item she purchased for me and that they will just bring it with them to the wedding.

So, I called Kohl's and it has been a friggin' nightmare. After 45 minutes I got transferred again and them disconnected and the problem still isn't solved. One lady have had the NERVE to ask me if I know Alex Valdez and maybe he's a relative of mine. I don't know who the hell he is, and I have a Kohl's account and my shipping address is not in California. I created the registry and I didn't put down a CA address-I used the same address on my account.

I have now just gone to our website and deleted the Kohl's registry info. OMG

    OMG that is horseshit.

She accused you of accidentally putting a relative's address instead of your own?

You should go talk to someone in person and demand that they refund the purchases of all your guests; your account clearly got hacked.

I'm so mad right now. I was on the phone with them forever and it's still not straightened out since I got disconnected.

So sorry to hear this is happening to you! I agree with purplekitten, it sounds like your account was hacked.

FYI - my registry lists my parent's address as the shipping address. My mother insisted etiquette dictates that gifts sent before the shower or wedding should not come to my house because I should not open them ahead of time. Also, since my parents are retired I felt more comfortable having items shipped to them rather than sitting on my front porch when me and FH are gone during the day.

Not going to lie, I'm having a terrible time with my Kohl's registry too. Not in this sense, but it's 4 months after the wedding and I still haven't gotten my registry rewards. 2/3 times I called, the customer service rep couldn't even help/couldn't get right basic registry information that was searchable.

Just keep calling and asking to speak to a manager until this gets sorted out. While I agree with deleting the registry to your guests won't look up the info, I hope it doesn't make things more difficult for the reps.

Oh man that stinks! Stay persistent and get them to ship those gifts to the correct address!

It sounds like someone hacked your registry and changed the shipping address to their own. It's actually incredibly easy to do and this situation is becoming more and more common.

Ugh, this is annoying. I'm sorry!

I've had a few friends who had problems with their Kohl's registry. I was also behind a woman in line at Kohl's recently who was trying to purchase from the registry. The cashier told her that she couldn't purchase off a registry without the registry number. The name of the bride wasn't enough. The customer asked if she could purchase them now and then call to have them checked off as purchased on the registry after the fact. The cashier said no. So the woman just had to purchase the items without them being checked off as purchased. I thought that was the most illogical way to handle registries! Kohls needs to get their act together with registries!

They need to make it right. You absolutely should be getting a refund for your guests. Their system was probably hacked or had a huge glitch. I'm angry for you! I hope this gets sorted out.

I've had so many bad experiences with Kohls that I may never go back. The last time I was there the associate as much as told me that their return policy is set up specifically to screw customers over. If you don't have a receipt you get the lowest cost it's been in 13 weeks. He then told me that they pretty much put everything on sale that often so without a receipt the chances of getting your full purchase price back is basically zero. I got a bunch of things for my shower that I didn't register for and when I tried to return them I wasn't going to get anywhere near what they were worth. A $50 item was going to get me $18 in store credit. I kept it to use as a gift. This was all after I had waited in line for 15 minutes only to be told I had to go to customer service for returns (a sign would've been great) and then waited in line at customer service for 20 minutes because they only had one person and she was helping someone with a super complicated issue, they didn't call for backup until another person got in line behind me.

Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience with the Kohl's wedding registry. When people purchased items off the registry, it wouldn't sync online with our account. So in the end, we wound up receiving numerous duplicates of all the basic items (at least 4 sets of cutting boards, 5 sets of silverware, multiple sets of mixing bowls, etc). However, when we went to return them, we didn't have receipts for all the gifts, and they would only give us back the lowest amount that item has sold for. So in the end, we were walking away with significantly less than what people had spent on our gifts. The entire return process was a nightmare. Although Kohls had a lot of items we wanted, they really need to work on improving the system before couples use it. We wound up with a lot of frustrations after getting married - and a closet full of duplicate items to be returned. In the end, we wished we had just registered solely at Bed Bath & Beyond, where they simply needed your registry number and they could process returns in less than 5 minutes - and you receive back exactly what your guests spent.

My daughter had a problem with Kohls for months, she ordered cookware and never received the cookware from Kohls. She called and spoke with Kohls representatives 10 -20 time and they made it feel like it was her fault. She paid with a Kohls gift card and the refused to refund her $50 even though they never sent her the item. This went on for months! Finally we contacted the Kohls corporate office, I think in Chicago, they were shocked and took care of the problem buy refunding her gift card and in addition giving her an additional $50. Call corporate! I'm not sure what call centers they are using but they seem to operate by saying it's the customers fault!
