So this week one of my two best friends of 13 years asked me why we're friends. I said that we just are and asked what's going on, she said that we don't have the same religious or political opinions and she doesn't feel like she can be herself with me. So this week one of my two best friends of 13 years asked me why we're friends. I said that we just are and asked what's going on, she said that we don't have the same religious or political opinions and she doesn't feel like she can be herself with me. I told her I was sorry she felt that way and I loved her but also I didn't have the time or emotional energy I needed to talk about this more right then because I was packing for moving which for me is one of the most stressful life events PLUS wedding planning. She told me to take care of stuff and we'd talk later. She blocked me on facebook the next morning. This came out of no where and I feel lost. Has anyone else had issues with long term friends right before their wedding? I have a few people that have suggested she's jealous, she has a very rocky relationship past including several divorces so as much as I normally dismiss jealousy as an issue I did think it might be possible. Sorry this is long I'm just lost without my bestie.

Wow that's just crazy!!! Me and my bestie are the totally opposite of each others a well.. But I don't get it.. I'm sorry you're going thru this! Maybe she is jealous? Or maybe you haven't been talking to her lately? If you cared about the relationship then try and get ahold of her but if not leave it..

Yea sorry @O$S #D&B I meant to just refer to you as OS and instead combined the two sets....It's been an incredibly long week.

I don't want a pat on the back, I'm not saying she IS jealous, I generally automatically dismiss that but it does seem more possible this time. I'm just trying to make it make sense. I wouldn't have cut her off if she was busy and I wanted to talk about something. More then once have I needed a shoulder and she was busy and she said she'd call back and it didn't happen....Life happens and when you're best friend is on the other side of the country sometimes it's a bit harder to be there. It's not like I could have offered to go for a drink on Monday and talk....

Is this "White Pride" thing new or has it always been a thing? Why on God's green earth would you be friends with someone for 13 years with beliefs like that?

That's very different from one person being Muslim and another person being Christian and arguing over theological differences of Abrahamic traditions. That is a downright deal breaker!

@Alyssacu if I thought she was actually a white supremacist I would...but I think she's just ignorant and doesn't care to learn, there is a difference to me.

@Futuresoup51317 I wasn't in the middle of moving my couch but it was the LAST night I had any freaking help doing it before the actual day we leave. packing alone with a 4 year old that wants to "help" but is then upset you put something in a box and she didn't want you too is probably one of the levels of hell...at least mine.

@JessieJV It's new....if she always felt that way she was quiet about it. I didn't actually see that post but my FH say it, the thing she said to me was something about a group for single whites dating and even that bothered me. I didn't hear about the white pride post until after she blocked me....honestly if I saw it I may have been blocked earlier for telling her that's ridiculous.

I've cut toxic people from my life. Sometimes you have to for your sanity. I cut a girl out of my life because all she had to say about everything was negative and she kept trying to dump her family drama on me two days after my mother died; she even acknowledged that she didn't want to add to my burden but.... *insert asinine family drama*. I've also cut a friend out of my life who still associates with this person because of all the terrible things she said to me and about my DH and about my marriage. Sometimes, it is more to do with the person and what they can deal with than with you specifically. I know it hurts; it's really painful. I would revisit in a few weeks and try to talk with your friend.

Not touching the white pride part.

Planning a wedding, bought a house, packed and moved with a 3 year old and 9 month old in tow and I never once told my bff I didn't have time for her when she called.

If I had something important I needed to talk to her about, I'd be upset if her response was "I'm busy".

Yes it is childish for her to block you, and unless she has these tendencies anyways, it makes me think there is more to this.

Try a letter, and give her time, and if you want to continue having a friendship with her, come up with something better to say than "we just are" when she asks why you are friends. That alone would hurt to hear.

You told her you don't have the time or emotional energy to talk to her about something weighing heavy on her? If she is your best friend, you set that aside for an hour and you talk to her.

ETA: in the time you have spent on here, posting about it (and not packing, I presume) you could have spent time talking to her. : / The white pride thing is odd, and could have been discussed, too.

She didn't bother to CALL me about the issue, she hasn't CALLED me in months and last time I called her she was high on pain killer her mom gave her and she took more then she should have for her back pain and she never called me back. She facebook messaged me, it's not like a picked up a call and hung up.

This has actually reminded me in how many small ways she hasn't been a good friend, I wish I hadn't lost her but sometimes you DON'T have the emotional energy to deal with something, maybe I'm abnormal with this but it's how I am. She knows that and choice to cut me out in less then 24 hours anyway. I would have never done that to her, I always stood by her when other people said she was making horrible decisions and told her I supported her no matter what...I didn't deserve that. I'm not perfect but I do deserve more.

Honestly it sounds like you might be better off now. But I am sorry you're having to deal with the loss of a relationship.

@under the June she did this on Sunday, I got the packing I needed to do done on SUNDAY when I needed my FHs help he works out of state it was the LAST DAY he would be home to help and discuss what we were taking with us immediately and what was going into storage because we are moving into a temporary situation before we move across the country in a few months for his work. I couldn't NOT help my FH and make him do it alone just like I shouldn't have had to do it all alone this week because my "friend" couldn't wait 24 hours to talk to me the next evening when my FH was gone.

Just chalk it up as a loss and move on. People grow apart, each person goes down a different path.

You can beat yourself up because you didn't have time that moment to have a deep philosophical discussion as to why you are friends or take it as that is all she needed to break off the friendship.

If she means a lot, write the letter people suggest but if she was a toxic person, maybe count your lucky stars she is no longer around.

Honestly - it might have been better to not respond. Only because if you had simply waited to answer what seemed like would be an intense conversation until you had time - it may have seemed like less of a brush off. I know life happens - but in all honesty sometimes friends need you at the most inopportune times - this seems like the case.

Side note - I would let it go. Personally white pride crazy would have gotten booted from my life a long time ago....

@Elphaba yeah wow that is insane. I'm all for cutting out toxic people but I didn't think my best friend would think of me as toxic...I try to be accepting of her and our differences and I thought she did the same for me, like an unspoken agreement that we could care about each other without agreeing on everything and to avoid drama we didn't talk about those things...I guess I was wrong.

I'm feeling a bit better about it now. I am sorry I hurt her with needing some time but it's how I am...I can't always deal with hard emotional things at the drop of a hat I need to collect myself. I have always been this way and just had people who understood.

OP, I'm sorry your friendship ended unexpectedly. However - similar to Elphaba, I've ended a decade-long friendship. After several years, it became apparent that the only thing we had in common was some event in our long-ago past (a college class together). Our life goals, experiences, and values were totally different. This person was also controlling and selfish - I got so tired of dealing with "Well, that's just how Friend is, so we all have to do it her way or feel her wrath." I took advantage of moving to another state to let the relationship fizzle and die. She was a good friend for a phase in my life, but not every friend is meant to last for a lifetime. I hope this helps in some way.
