Kind of a rant- Help me! My mom requested my bachelorette party weekend off..

Breanna, on April 21, 2015 at 3:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

My bachelorette party weekend is supposed to be crazy. We're going all out. That isn't something I can see myself doing with my mom.. I love her and love to have her around but it's just not a mom weekend. She text me today and said she requested the weekend off, my family doesn't really do that.. Except for obvious exceptions like wedding and funerals work comes first. That's just how we were raised. With that the way it is I can't just be like "um mom I don't want you to come" because she chose my party over her job that she loves! Maybe I'm overreacting, I dunno. I don't really want to party with my mom (she doesn't even drink..) but I don't want to hurt her feelings.

My mom is coming with on my bach party. But that's how we roll. I think you're overreacting. Just let her know what exactly will be going on so she isn't surprised.

She knows more of what's going on than I do! She even knows about Darcell's (it's a cross dressing strip club, bachelorette party tradition here) and that's the most awkward situation I can ever imagine..

Idk, I plan to have my mom at my Bachlorette, but my mom is fun when she goes out partying Smiley tongue (I saw her firsthand at my cousin's bach) I guess it depends on if you're comfortable with your mom going or not. Do you think she will effect the mood at all?

Are you going away for the weekend or is it local? If it's local, try to include her for parts of the weekend. I'm sure it's not going to be 48 hours straight of shots and strippers. Invite her to dinner or if you are doing spa time. Something like that.

I made it very clear to my BMs that I wanted dinner to be nearby so my mom, 14 year old sister (who is a BM) and my FMIL could be part of the festivities.

Can she come to the beginning part of it? My friend had us and her mom, underage sister, and aunts meet at her house for appetizers and drinks. From there we went to the bars and her Mom, Sister, and Aunts went home. She did ask for us to separate fun and naughty gifts in two piles and she opened the fun gifts in front of everyone.

If you don't want her there, then you need to have the extremely awkward conversation. You can make a joke of it, like "Mom, there's going to be some super embarrassing things going on and that's just not the kind of thing I want my mom to see!"

FWIW, my sister invited my mom to her crazy, blow out weekend bach party. My mom was miserable. She said she felt like she had to go because my sister's (F)MIL was invited and my mom would have felt bad saying no. So she asked me not to make her come to mine--she'll attend the daytime part of it (we're day drinking on my sister's boat!) but will not attend the rest of it. The last thing I want to do is open up lingerie and sex toys in front of my mom!

I would just be upfront with what you are doing. THen it will be in her court if she feels comfortable. My aunt wanted to come in for mine and my shower (had them the same weekend). My SIL/MOH just let her know what we were planning, so she knew ahead of time and could make the choice herself if she thought she would feel comfortable, etc. They've already been through all this and knows what can/does go on.

It's out of town, about three hours from her. My moms fun but she doesn't party, I've seen her drink once in my life (a glass of champagne at her sister's wedding) We're having dinner before we go out but I don't want to make her drive three hours just for dinner.

I just don't see my mom enjoying her daughter being doused with penises, much less me being comfortable with that haha. Good luck, OP!

I would just express to her (nicely) that you would prefer she not attend, that it would be extremely uncomfortable for you.

I totally get this. My mom is my best friend (like I call her everyday just to chat), but I like to drink sometimes and only occasionally does she have a glass of wine. I would be really uncomfortable if my BMs planned a bach party that was definitely going to be crazy and my mom was with us. I would definitely tone down the partying if she was there (which I wouldn't want to do but would be a visceral reaction to her presence at the party lol). My mom and I are going to have several "girls nights" before my day-- we're planning on doing nails together then we're going to have an artistic friend come over and show us how to paint while we drink wine.

Could you maybe suggest wanting to do a tamer "girls night" with her and that you're bach party be with the girls? Maybe mention that you don't want her to be uncomfortable? I don't know you're relationship with your mom, but maybe see why she wants to come on the bach party and make sure she's aware that you'll be drinking and it might be a bit wild...?

Is it a weekend away? Can you plan a separate lunch or dinner with your girls and mum?

We started mine with lunch at a winery. Mum was there. I got presented with a dick cake and had to read out many embarrassing sexual things as part of a game we played. That was more than enough for mum to hear! She went home shortly after thankfully.

I understand where you are coming from. I would tell her that you planned on doing a lot of wild things and just don't think it would be the best event for her to attend. My mom and I are very close, but there is no way in hell will she be at my bach party lol. My girls can get wild and nasty... and I wouldn't want my mom to be apart of it lol.

My mom is coming to mine but she is party central. Last summer we went to key west for my friends and her mom and 2 aunts came and they hung out until like after dinner and then did their own thing,do you have an aunt or a family friend that could hang with her while you do all the party/penis/strippers?

I say- just roll with it. Its your mom! It must mean a lot to her to come, if she took off and that's not common in your family.

Yeah, I love my mom. We love having wine and chatting, that kind of thing. But I would NOT be okay with my mom at my bachelorette. I guess it depends on what you're doing. But my mom at a drag show, with penis everything, drunkenness... maybe it's just me. Heck, I'm nervous that my sisters are going! I love them too, but we're not exactly close. They'll probably be like "WHOA! Didn't know she partied like this!". Ha! Good luck Smiley smile
