Kids at Wedding Reception!

Brenda, on April 19, 2022 at 4:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 11

Although we'd love not to have kids, we have 4 of our own and most of our guests are family, meaning, potential babysitters will be at our wedding as well!!

My questions is... if you're having kids at your wedding, what are you planning on to keep them entertained?

We have a separate kids section set up with good boxes for each kid to keep them busy and am also thinking of putting a little table with board games out to keep them entertained..

Any other suggestions??

I had some coloring activity books specifically for the children!

I'm putting a kids activity bag at each table with a child with their name on it. It will have coloring pages with small boxes of crayons, activity pages (crossword, word search, etc), it will have a foam glow stick as well as regular glow sticks. I don't know what else if anything I'll add.

So I do plan on setting a goody box with crayons, a mini coloring book, flashing "diamond" ring, pop it fidget and a ring pop... just not sure if this will suffice :/ I also will have a kraft paper "table runner" for their use as well!

I figure, if they're a child who requires much more than what I'm providing for activities, then ideally either the parent would chose to leave them with a sitter OR bring their own activities.

Just another option: You could hire a babysitter(s). Especially if there is an extra space on site, or if you are having your wedding in a hotel. You could hire someone to watch movies/play with the kids during the wedding.

Personally I think it's the parent's responsibility to bring things to entertain their kids if they think they'll need it. However, I highly doubt the kids (and this may just be the kids that will be at my wedding) will sit still at a table and color or do crafts when there is so much activity going on around them. They'll most likely play with each other and dance with their parents.

Kids are always invited to weddings in our families and social circles. However they are raised by parents who teach them how to behave in public. That said, the only entertainment that is provided is the dj and kids enjoy the dance floor as much as the adults do without issue. Those weddings that are more subdued without a dj, the kids entertain themselves without disrupting anyone. We aren’t providing anything special for kids specifically.

I think if I had a lot of kids, I'd be happy to hire a "kid wrangler" to help keep kid's needs met. They could be in the reception room with the kids, and I'd get them a meal too.

Coloring books, activity pages, little games (think of ages and choking hazards), movies, hopscotch…
