Kids and Weddings

Lauren, on May 10, 2019 at 8:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
I come from a fairly large family, and I. Sure many brides can relate to this. Roughly 20 of my wedding guests (that’s 15%) are minors. I don’t count my siblings and children who have a job to do (8 children), but the other 12-13 are 10 and under (mainly new and old nieces and nephews, young cousins, plus one baby because his father is performing at our wedding).

I concerned about two things: 1.) Noise/Whining/Crying during our ceremony and 2.) Wasting our food.

I know the sounds like a small number, but kids are unpredictable. It’s why every event isn’t for them. I don’t have plans to exclude them obviously, but I need a potential “damage control plan.” Is strategic seating enough? Thoughts?

S/n: I just sent out invitations by mail today (Small Victories). 79 Days To Go.

Kids are drawn to cake or sugar in general. Kids are also not very patient. If you have kids at the reception... With a big towering tempting cake.... Either try to do it asap to avoid the classic finger swipe, the cake topple or anything else that is more likely to go wrong with kids and cake. It's best to get the picture, cut the cake, and then serve it at leisure for anyone who wants it.

We can go into how the hypothetical prospective parents of said kids should be expected to parent better but truth be told it's just better to expect the worst kid and not have to have the regret later.

Hey Lauren! Congratulations on sending out your invitations! That's such an exciting step to takeSmiley love

There is plenty that you can do to keep the little ones happy during your wedding! You could provide coloring books and crayons during dinner/while your guests are seated to keep them entertained. A great idea I saw (if you are doing a kids table) is to forego the table linen for them and line the table with something they can draw on! Who wouldn't love the opportunity to draw on the table?!

Thanks for the suggestion. We have a tight guest list and close quarters at the table, so they’ll have to sit with their parents (unless 10 people don’t come). I’ll try to find something that doesn’t ruin the tablecloths I’m purchasing.

In that case, I think some coloring books or building blocks/Lego to keep them entertained during the reception will work fine! Smiley laugh
