Khmer-american wedding

Julee, on February 27, 2021 at 10:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
Hello! I am a bride that has a dual cultural background. I will be wearing a traditional American wedding dress but also want to wear Khmer wedding attire. (The Khmer attire will be a surprise for everyone including the groom) I am unsure if I should wear the Khmer attire for the ceremony then change into the American wedding dress or vise versa. Anyone have a similar situation and suggestions? We will have a one day ceremony not the traditional Khmer ceremony that lasts days so that is not an option.

I had to Google it because I honestly never heard about it before. But based off the pictures I think that would make a great reception outfit. What does your wedding dress look like? Can you move and dance easily in it? How long will it take for you to get in and out of it?

A lot of people will want to have a closer look at your
Khmer dress, and for that reason I say, wear it for your reception. But you could wear either for the ceremony and beginning of the reception, then quick change after dinner, too. I enjoy split heritage weddings, a quick look at another world.

That’s a great point! I didn’t think of (everyone wanting a closer look) I took for granted that it’s not something different to me.

I have worn Khmer clothes before and can move in them but not sure of my wedding dress yet (I’m going in July to shop). Reception is probably better. A lot of times Khmer things are first then the bride changes to the American dress for remainder of reception. I feel like maybe it should be the opposite like you said and someone else made a great point about guests being able to see the dress up close so again reception is ideal for that.
