Just postponed our wedding...

Amanda, on December 21, 2020 at 8:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

We just made the tough decision to postpone our 5/1/21 wedding to Friday 7/30/21. We ended up switching to a Friday to keep our vendors. I’m hoping that moving to mid-summer will be enough time to get the virus under control, but who can say for sure. I honestly think that we could have had our 100 person wedding on May 1, but right now our state still has tight restrictions and I didn’t want to risk having to un-invite people. I feel both relieved and disappointed. My family and friends are happy with the postponement, so that makes me feel like I made the right move. Any other brides out there dealing with postponement? Was I too hasty?

Hi Amanda, smart move and I agree with your family and friends. This allows time for the vaccine to roll out, relieves pressure on you and your fiancé. We postponed our June 2020 wedding to August 2020 and our weather was perfect! Had we stayed with our original day, it was total thunderstorms!! My aunt told me God had a reason behind it and she was right ❤️. Hope this gives you peace of mind ❤️

I think if was a good decision. I pray things are okay by July 2021. My wedding is in September and I’m nervous. I know we are ALL nervous though. This is crazy. I can honestly say most people do not have to worry about whether or not their wedding will happen. On the bright side, I think if puts wedding planning into perspective that it’s not about flowers, or an open bar or anything brides normally stress about. It’s about marrying the person you can live with and continue to love while quarantined during a global pandemic! You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your vision for your special day and postponing until later definitely can’t hurt. I think your guests will be happier because of it! Takes some of the pressure of them too.

I got married last year, but I'm currently pregnant and my due date is May 1st. My ob said the restrictions will likely remain in place past my due date and into the summer if not longer so no I don't think you were hasty with moving your date.

You made the right decision! There’s so many couples that rescheduled - it’s only a few months after your original date so gives you more time to plan.

I think those few extra months will buy you some time, but I really don't know if things will be "normal" by summer or if it won't be until fall or later in the year. We eloped on our original day (May 30, 2020), postponed our celebration a full year (June 12, 2021), and now our venue has recommended we move the date again, but I'm not sure if I want to try shooting for September or October 2021 or just bump it out another year to 2022. I think you were smart to postpone and not at all hasty in making a decision, I just hope enough has improved by your new date. Fingers crossed for you and all the other brides out there who have had to move their wedding because of Covid!

Nope we did the same thing 5/8/21 > 7/31/21
It felt like the right thing to do. We're sticking with our date. Whoever comes, comes. Whoever doesn't, doesn't. We'll still take precautions and offer PPE and if we have to decrease the guest list then so be it. It is what it is at this point. I just want to wear my dress and dance and eat some good food 😋

Wow Sara we are almost twins with our dates! The more I think about it, I think we made a great decision. Lots of people have been telling us that they appreciate the switch and will feel much more comfortable at the wedding. Summer is also my favorite season and I love being tan!!
