Just getting started, need a venue in FL!

Sammi, on December 2, 2017 at 4:36 PM Posted in Florida Planning 0 21

Hey all! My fiancée and I recently got engaged! We live in Los Angeles, but will more than likely have our wedding in South Florida (his family is in the Ft. Lauderdale area).

We're thinking our guest list is gonna be about 100 people, and our budget is $15000 for everything. We love the idea of a brunch wedding.

We're open to venues all around south florida including the keys (any all inclusive resorts down there?). Since we are planning from afar I'm hoping to do something all inclusive, but that doesn't feel cheep and cheesy. We'll need a ceremony and reception site. I am not a "barefoot on the beach" kinda girl.

Any suggestions? I'm not from the area and am feeling lost!

We're heading down there around christmas and I want to look at a bunch of venues.

    Congrats!!!

Check out: https://www.costofwedding.com input zip code can pick one from Palm beach county, broward or Miami to use and it'll help give you an idea of average budgets for the area.

Average cost down here is $19k-32k for 100 guests. After all is said and done we'll be around $13k-14k for 45.

Check out wedding-spot.com, and the knot as well as WW venue tab. All allow you to filter results to meet your needs.

This is a very wide net to cast. Have you done any research? You would probably get more help if you actually did some research first and asked about a few places on this forum. Try using the vendor tab on WW.

Hey - Welcome to Wedding Wire. We checked out several places in south Florida. We booked with Ocean Manor but also looked at Riverside Hotel, Deauville Beach Resort, The Addison, Carolina Golf Club, Historic Maxwell Room.

ETA - when we flew down to look at venues we looked at two a day which was just enough. Have a list of questions, pen and writing pad.

We are spending $20K for 100 people. But we chose their all-inclusive package and upgraded some things

If you're willing to look into the Orlando area, my co-worker is getting married at the Portofino Bay Hotel! Its all inclusive and gorgeous! Sorry I'm not much help here, I live in northern FL! Congrats and good luck! My only advice, DO NOT get married during hurricane season. Especially down there in South FL! You don't have a date yet since you haven't booked a venue but I'd push it into Nov. Dec. or even Jan. just to be safe.

Good luck to you, @HisBeauty. I hope you have plans for backup, or your venue does. FH lived here his whole life and I'd never make that gamble.

As have I.. we're not able to do it later, so we chose September.

We also have wedding insurance just in case.

I figure as a resident, I know how to cope with hurricane season. I figure as a professional venue, they also know how to cope. Smiley smile

I still wouldn't advise bringing your family in from far away during hurricane season, OP. Assuming they don't live in FL (as you said only FH family lives down here)...If they were all local I think it would be different but I wouldn't have my whole family fly in from PA if there was a potential for a hurricane. Our seasons have only gotten worse over the last 5 years. My mom was here for Irma and that woman freaked out enough not being used to procedure. Let alone having my wedding. Again, to each his own I suppose.

I agree Nov to Feb even. True story my neice got married on Clearwater Beach this Sept. Wedding day fell the weekend after Hurricane hit on Tuesday. The beach was fine no corrosion and all went well but what a bridal scare for her.

We aren't going to get married during hurricane season Smiley smile

Looking at late November-early April. Our guest list will also probably shrink from 100 to 80.

I am planning on looking at:

    Vista Largo Ballroom

    Jungle Island

    The Rusty Pelican

    Lakeside Terrance in Boca Raton

    A few nature centers...

    Just hoping for more suggestions!

There is Lake Mary Event Center, Trinity Convention Center (Elaine is amazing!) - You can look at the Crystal Ballroom (all inclusive decor, silverware, chairs, lighting, etc.); Venetian Ballroom (super cheap!) - $950 for 6 hours I believe. Only con is it's in a plaza but it's the best I've seen for an affordable price. And Mike is super nice!

Honestly for 15k you may have to compromise on some things like expensive bridal gifts, fancy transportation... I would say find somewhere you can have your own caterer. Decor rentals can add up, but you can also do it yourself (if you're that type of bride). I've been doing a lot of research around the area and most places are pricey but convention centers are also great if you don't care about a fancy location.

South Florida is super expensive! I was married at the Addison and spent close to 30k for a little over 100 people and I originally wanted to spend 10k....the struggle is real, but anyway I am currently helping my friend look for wedding venues for her wedding. She wants to stay within a 15k budget. I have looked at many many places and am having a difficult time. I did come across the Living Sculpture Sanctuary. They seemed very accommodating and my friend said the place was actually very pretty. It has no indoor space available but, It is worth a try.

Hurricane season? Yikes! We are doing ours up in northwest florida at an all-inclusive. It’s a destination for all of our friends and family as we just moved here in June. It might help to come up this way a little just to escape the potential effects of a hurricane.

November to april is high wedding season. The places you mentioned are expensive for your budget. My budget is $16k for 90 ppl. And a lot
of DYI and non inclusive venue (Living Sculptures look at them!) . If you are not a beach kind of girl then look into Homestead ranches. There are many options and better prices. I really liked Unique palms.

We are getting married at Secret woods nature center in fort Lauderdale. We will be expecting about 75 people. reception will be there as well. 10-10 at the park including ceremony spot was $950. They have a list a mile long of approved vendors for everything you need to add on for food music beverage etc.

I went to a wedding last year at the Addison, in Boca Raton. I LOVED it, it was so gorgeous!! The ceremony was outside under the big tree, with cocktail hour outside and the reception inside

We looked at Crowne Plaza (which is now a DoubleTree) in Hollywood. We loved it and the easiness of it. She basically gave you pamphlets of all their favorite vendors, which were actually affordable. We didn't go with them, but we almost booked that day! Beautiful place on the water, without the beach.
