Okay, so FH and I have really strong ties to home. His family owns a junkyard with a gorgeous big pond behind it with a pier and big bonfire out with fields all around and a very large open space. Okay, so FH and I have really strong ties to home. His family owns a junkyard with a gorgeous big pond behind it with a pier and big bonfire out with fields all around and a very large open space. We want to have the wedding there and have the isle go in between the lane where the old vehicles are. We're planning a very rustic outdoorsy wedding anyway, but I'm still pretty nervous about having a wedding at "the yard" and having such a classy event happen in such a non classy environment. But we will be having our fur baby and our human baby in the wedding and we know we will be able to have Hooch, our fur baby, at the wedding and reception if we do it there. Plus it's literally in our hometown and all of our family will be able to make it there. I'm so stuck on what to do that I figure getting some advice will help me make up my mind!! Let me know what y'all think! Thank you!

Have they had weddings there before? The photo you posted was pretty, but I do agree it would help if you posted more photos.

My gut reaction is that this is a bad idea and that you know it, since you are apprehensive. I would look at parks and other outdoor spaces and see how you feel once you've seen other options.

You would probably spend more money vamping this venue up to be weddingesque that you'd lose all the money you're saving by not renting a venue. If your FH and FILs are sold on the idea already (which may be why you've posted) I would look independently at other venues that are cheaper but offer things like... Chairs and tables. Or, if it's a huge parcel of land then maybe rent a tent and stay on the opposite side of the junkyard. My biggest concern would be kids wandering around and hurting themselves and who knows what lawsuits would come with that. And yes, the pictures CK posted are pretty, but that doesn't mean this junkyard looks like that junkyard. Take some pictures and hear everyone but ultimately it's YOUR WEDDING. We can give advice but I don't have to live with your choices for the rest of my life, you do.

I'm curious about this. I think it has the potential to be really cool if done correctly...or really gross if slapped together. I hope you post photos of the yard today!

I'm just picturing making a murderer and Steven Avery. I think that was a car scrap yard...but still. We need photos!

I can't believe the haters, lol! If I were approached about shooting a salvage yard wedding, I'd be all over it. Offbeat Brides baby! They aren't all the unkept mess many think. If it's something passionate to the couple or there is special meaning, why not? I can definitely understand this not being the right choice for most couples, but I think it's a cool idea. How to make it happen: Get rid of rats, bugs, mosquitoes (standing water). Line the aisle with the best looking of the vintage cars. Make sure guests are current on their tetanus shots.

Then plan it like any backyard wedding -- tent, potty-trailers, generators, tables & chairs, dance floor, caterer, DJ -- the whole nine yards.

Or book a real venue and it will probably cost less.

Could you do some photos there and then go to a venue?
