Junkyard Wedding.

Okay, so FH and I have really strong ties to home. His family owns a junkyard with a gorgeous big pond behind it with a pier and big bonfire out with fields all around and a very large open space. Okay, so FH and I have really strong ties to home. His family owns a junkyard with a gorgeous big pond behind it with a pier and big bonfire out with fields all around and a very large open space. We want to have the wedding there and have the isle go in between the lane where the old vehicles are. We're planning a very rustic outdoorsy wedding anyway, but I'm still pretty nervous about having a wedding at "the yard" and having such a classy event happen in such a non classy environment. But we will be having our fur baby and our human baby in the wedding and we know we will be able to have Hooch, our fur baby, at the wedding and reception if we do it there. Plus it's literally in our hometown and all of our family will be able to make it there. I'm so stuck on what to do that I figure getting some advice will help me make up my mind!! Let me know what y'all think! Thank you!

The idea kicks dead tires, not ass -- not for a bride. Sorry, Jay.

ETA: An editorial shoot? Yes. A bridal shoot...please...

I think it sounds cool and unique. Since you wouldn't be getting married in the middle of the cars and junk it sounds like it will still be beautiful.

I would be incredibly wary of this one. I would want more pictures to be able to say. It's a unique idea, but it would take a ton of work to pull off.

I'm kind of loving this idea! But, yes it would take a lot of work to get it right! If you love DIY and a challenge, and know this won't necessarily be cheaper than a traditional venue, I say go for it!

I LOVE this! We are using a lot of old car parts in our wedding decor so I appreciate the theme.

My advice is to keep guest experience in mind. Have great food, drinks and comfortable space for your guests to sit and mingle.

It sounds to me like this venue is very "you". If you love it and can have good accommodations for your guests don't let those who don't understand deter you from it.

Just told FH about this idea and he now wants to change our venue to a junkyard lol (he's a mechanic for a living and a complete and total gear head by nature).

People are actually encouraging this idea?

Key words from the OP: "His family owns a junkyard...". The wedding is allegedly being held in a damn junk yard. It's not a cool magazine shoot, people -- it's someone's wedding. You know, if she was willing to just openly admit that she's cool with the junkyard background, that would be one thing, but is anyone else reading "but I'm still pretty nervous about having a wedding at 'the yard' and having such a classy event happen in such a non classy environment."? Not ringing true, OP -- not at all -- fur babies, human babies, etc.

Whatever. It's a junkyard. Love it or leave it. Get a tetanus shot -- that's my advice.

I know I have seen editorial shoots like the ones CK posted.... they are so stunning. But I worry about how it might turn out IRL more pictures (of the actual junkyard) would be helpful

It's a great idea.....for pictures with photoshopping and instagram filters. In real life? Not so much.

If it's not your wedding then don't judge someone for their choice of venue. I personally love the idea! But a lot of people do point out some good points on why it could go wrong. You just have to plan it to your expectations (: I say go for it!

Hell, yes...these images can turn out shockingly well -- IF they are shot by an editorial photographer whose subject is a professional model who understands the image and juxtaposition she's responsible for creating (that's why they pay those models as much as they do -- once those models have a few great editorials under their belts). But, seriously, can we all stop pretending that the average woman wearing a David's Bridal gown -- while posing in acreage littered with rusted out crap -- will end up looking like anything other than the average woman posing in acreage of rusted out crap? Old Monte Carlos and Gran Torinos are dead, and with Jane Doe in the foreground, their bones will never harken back to their former glory. The bride? Unless she's signed with a top ten Manhattan fashion agency, it's not going to fly. This is someone's wedding...the bride deserves more than whatever this is.

FH works at a junkyard as a machine operator and would probably be over the moon if I mentioned having our wedding there. However, the junkyard he works at, we would have to give tetanus shots out as wedding favors.

I'm just picturing the bugs running ramped and the smell. This does not sound like a good idea. There are a lot of gorgeous state parks if you want an outdoor wedding and they are very affordable. They're a much better option.

It's your wedding, so do what feels right to you and your FH! My personal opinion? I would avoid the junkyard. In theory it sounds unique, but that's something I might look back on and regret. Could you maybe just use the open land as far away from the junk as possible and avoid walking through it?

The words junkyard and wedding shouldn't go in the same sentence. Bad idea.

It sounds like you aren't sold on the idea OP. That is your indicator that you should look at other options. See what parks and other venues are nearby. You might find something that fits better with your vision for a classy event.
