Junkyard Wedding.

Emma , on March 4, 2016 at 8:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 53

Okay, so FH and I have really strong ties to home. His family owns a junkyard with a gorgeous big pond behind it with a pier and big bonfire out with fields all around and a very large open space. We want to have the wedding there and have the isle go in between the lane where the old vehicles are. We're planning a very rustic outdoorsy wedding anyway, but I'm still pretty nervous about having a wedding at "the yard" and having such a classy event happen in such a non classy environment. But we will be having our fur baby and our human baby in the wedding and we know we will be able to have Hooch, our fur baby, at the wedding and reception if we do it there. Plus it's literally in our hometown and all of our family will be able to make it there. I'm so stuck on what to do that I figure getting some advice will help me make up my mind!! Let me know what y'all think! Thank you!

I think you have worries for a reason. If you truly loved it you wouldn't question.

That's a very unique venue. It seems like it could be very cool or very cheesy...

The property you described sounds great.... Maybe just set up somewhere on their property and not walking between junkyard aisles?

I am kinda in the need pictures boat. The image junk yard kinda clashes with wedding in my mind. But the fields and pond sound nice. If it is somewhere special to you, it would be one of a kind. It would take a lot of work to tie in that level or rustic without looking like a gimmick... but maybe.

I like that you named your pet hooch, but that's the only thing I like from what I read.

pictures would help because what I'm picturing does not go with wedding---rustic vibe or not. update us with pics and maybe more of us will agree with this decision.

I'll be able to get pictures tomorrow! We'll be going over there to visit with his uncle anyways, so I'll be sure to post them! And we wouldn't be having the wedding in the actual yard with all the cars around us we would be walking down the isle between the cars and having the actual wedding and seating and everything out by the pond which is easily 100 yards from the actual cars and stuff. Idk it's a great idea I think if executed properly. But one little thing could go wrong and it would be ridiculous.

Not my thing, but whatever floats your boat.

So your aisle* would be 100 yards...?

I'm hesitant. The picture you shared is very pretty but the yard sounds scary. I'm sure parts of it could offer some neat photo opportunities.

I guess my only suggestion is make sure you love this idea. If you don't love it, it's not the right choice. I had the opportunity to have my wedding at my grandparent's fishing club which had a large pond/lake and a clubhouse available for next to free. I just couldn't get over the dead fish nailed to the walls of the club.

Just saying, if something doesn't feel right then it isn't right. Good luck!

I'm kinda speechless, which is rare for me.

    and it's aisle......

Is there another approach besides walking through the junkers?

I'm all ABOUT industrial next to high end- it makes for good pictures.

But. well I'm not sure on this one- need more pictures. You'd really need to be comitted to the whole "industrial thing"

Hell I pitched a retired penitentiary for our ceremony space- but it was set up specifically for pictures even though it was a shell and dingy.

    More pictures are needed.

If you do this, please cover those haybales or replace them with something. My skin has the WORST reaction to hay; I'd have hives and boils for weeks after sitting there.

This is either going to be one of those things that is all over our sponsored newsfeed ads as the coolest thing ever.

    Or weird as fuck.

And the line is so very very thin.

The fear I would add to this thread is about cleanliness; MrsF2B, who brought up hay allergies, makes a great point. What about flies, bugs, or other odors that may be prevalent in a junkyard? Wouldn't want those to ruin your atmosphere.

I mean if it looks like the pics Mrs. CK posted I think it would look really cool. Otherwise, I wouldn't do it.

Hey, do you get TV Land? If you do, tune in to any episode of "Sanford and Son". The stories revolve around a father/son owned junkyard. It was "junk" in the 1970's. It may be called "junque" today, but you know the old saying...a rose by any other name, etc.

You aren't serious, are you? Do you really think you can bridge the gap between rusted out crap and an envisioned "classy event". You can't -- unless all of those rotted, rusted, car bodies have been repaired, primed, and painted to reflect a mirror image. That might make your wedding unusual and interesting, but it sounds like the crap will still be in its crap state when your wedding occurs. Listen, a lake, a river, or an ocean doesn't erase trash. It's just trash, and you would be a smart lady to ditch this idea ASAP.
