June wedding, groom is in the military

Lori, on March 24, 2020 at 1:28 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 3
Needing positive vibes/advice! My wedding is in early June and my fiancé is in the military. The department of defense has restricted travel until mid May and issued a 2 week quarantine period for those who travel. All leave at my fiancé’s base has been cancelled for the time being. I’m not sure what to do! Should I postpone or wait it out? I haven’t sent invitations yet. All advice is needed!

Our wedding was April 23rd and we cancelled. I would have postponed but we cannot trust that the DOD ban will actually be voided on May 11th. The restrictions are already strict, but I see further restrictions being placed on certain bases, job specialties and even individual branches. They also are seeing prolonged deployments and new work-ups. I would wait until May 11th to postpone the wedding in case it does lift. If it doesn't then let May 11th be your deciding date. I would reach out to your vendors and ask them what date they need a "proceed or postpone" date by. Explain the situation and set up an arbitrary date with them. This way you can have a deciding date set and it should prevent any vendors from buying thousands in food, hundreds in flowers, etc. I'd hate for you to get charged for goods that you end up not being able to use.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this Lori! It's so hard to make plans right now in this totally uncertain time, and coordinating with your fiance's military leave has to make things even more difficult!! I've heard a lot of June brides are waiting a few weeks and monitoring their local situation, but it also never hurts to be proactive about figuring out what plan b looks like.

Here are a few active discussions I've seen with other June couples sharing their concerns:June 2020 Weddings - How's everyone feeling?June and July Brides do not stress Covid-19!!!June 6, 2020 brides- talk to me!
