June 6, 2020 brides- talk to me!

Alexis, on March 19, 2020 at 9:52 AM Posted in Community Conversations 13 202
What is your thought process right now? Not only am I thinking about how the COVID-19 will affect my wedding, but how my shower on 4/4 and my bachelorette party on 5/8 will also be impacted.

What is your thought process right now? Are you pushing the wedding back? Are you still going ahead with everything until told otherwise?
I would love to hear from all of you and how you're handling this trying time.

My wedding is June 5th and as of right now, everything is still booked. No one had reached out to me to postpone it anything yet. I think it's still too soon to say. But my issue is, my job laid me off yesterday so now I cant pay off what I still owe to my venue and my last 2 payments for my photographer and florist. AND if I dont get my job back, me and future hubby wont be able to afford to live together (we still live at home with parents) this corona crap is ruining EVERYTHING.

    Hi Maria!

Thanks for sharing, I’m really sorry to hear about everything that your going through. I wish I could offer some words of advise that would make it all better. If you guys can get through this, I hope it prepares you for a lifetime of happiness! Maybe start messaging your vendors asking if they are offering any type of grace for times like these. Maybe not discounts, but for final payments to be extended?
On the other hand- what do you think about my shower date? Should I cancel?

As for your shower, I honestly dont know. My shower is May 3rd, and I'm not sure if they're going to cancel it. I think maybe call the place where you're having it and see what they have to say? Ugh such tough times!

I'm in a similar boat as you! My bridal shower is supposed to be April 4th and I'm getting married June 6th. Right now I'm not too worried about the wedding date, but my mom and I are debating whether or not to postpone the bridal shower. I really don't want to as there are under 40 people invited but at this point I don't know what to expect. I think we are going to make our final decision this weekend. How many people are invited to your shower?

Omg! We’re spot on with the dates. We have around 30/35 people, our country club is saying as long as it’s under 50 then we can still hold the event.

My thing is, a lot of people are already canceling and I don’t know if I- or my family- would truly be able to enjoy themselves. It’s supposed to be a happy time & it’s seems anything but.
Let me know what you guys decide this weekend, we have until Monday to let the country club know our decision so my mom and I will also be discussing postponing.

Yes we are! I've seen other brides telling their guests if they don't feel good/have symptoms or feel unsafe then to stay home. You're right this is supposed to be a happy time for us and this whole virus is putting a damper on wedding plans! I definitely will keep you updated!

Hi Jill! I don’t know if this helps at all, but I just spoke with my mom & we decided to push the shower back. I told her to make it as close to my bachelorette (May 8th) and wedding as possible. I did this because it gives me more time to think and see what I have to do for the wedding, I don’t want to have my bridal shower right now if I’m going to have to postpone it until a later date- knock on wood .

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

    Hi Alexis,

We are also June 6, and we’ve contacted all our vendors and are looking at October 3rd. Our venue informed us all cancellations in March/April are not even rebooking yet and waiting to reassess in a few weeks.
I’m torn because we had guests coming from Europe and Asia, and so postponing would mean they could still come, but at the same time.. I’m holding out on hope and we decided mid April is when we will pull the plug on June or not. We also have an invite list of 260 guests Smiley sad
Is there a “date” you guys decided on for making a decision?
Another issue we’re dealing with is not getting a refund on our honeymoon which we booked with Chase (rewards on rooms) and Airfair through the CC. I spoke with a rep last night that told me pandemics/epidemics are not covered for travel insurance and unless I come down with it (and/or my fiancé) we won’t qualify.
    Anyone else dealing with this?
    Thanks

We booked a cruise out of ITALY for the end of May. Unfortunately, we need to wait for them to cancel to receive our money back. Total garbage. A lot of money is tied up in our honeymoon and it sucks to having to play a waiting game, when it obviously doesn't make sense for us to go anymore.

Ugh. I’m so sorry hear, we are waiting for them to cancel too. We were going to go to Spain Portugal and Italy. Our flight from Spain to Italy is cancelled but the other legs are showing up on Iberia’s website, we can’t call anyone right now either. And I think the hotels are all boutiques so we are just out of luck on that Smiley sad

It’s absolutely insane I thought it was common sense for a refund, we physically can’t go to these places but yet it doesn’t matter.

    Hi Monalyn!

I think you were definitely smart to have a back up date, just incase things didn’t start looking up. It seems to me you and your fiancé are on top of it & doing everything you can to be prepared! I’m sure that helps you feel a little better.
I am casually reaching out to my vendors, but in the meantime I just moved my shower date out to May in the hopes it would give me more time to think & see what happens between now & then. I’m at 235 guest count, except most my guests are “locals”.
As far as your honeymoon goes, don’t quote me on this but I heard those reps are looking for very specific words when you call them. You have to say something like you want to reschedule your travel dates due to “unforeseen circumstances” they probably won’t refund you but you might be able to push it back!
Keep me updated on your date & what you do!
Wishing you all the best! Sounds like an awesome wedding.

I’m sorry about your shower, are you rescheduling? As far as your date goes, I guess the only thing we can do is ride it out and make decisions as it gets closer.

    Best of wishes!

Thank you! The venue we had for the bridal shower was only available in April. We didn’t have much of a choice but to cancel it.

    Hello,
My fiancé and I are not post poning the wedding but decided that if the venue closes we will still have the ceremony somewhere else. We aren’t letting this ruin our plans of getting married. My shower is April 4th and we haven’t canceled it yet. Regardless I’ll have a shower that day.

My shower was supposed to be March 29 and we have postponed it until May 3. I’m not sure if that date will even happen at this time either. Just going day by day, but we are still in good hopes for the actual wedding day on June 6. But it’s a good idea to start talking about a plan B with your fiance and family. My venue is going to allow couples who are affected by all this to change their date for 2020, but we haven’t been asked to. So if we can’t get married there June 6, we are doing a backyard wedding with just immediate family and bridal party day of. I’m trying not to stress and just being hopeful. Keep thinking positive!
