July wedding dilemma

Cheryl, on May 11, 2020 at 8:52 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11
Is there anyone having a July wedding or has everyone already cancelled?.. My fiancée and I are soo undecided about what to do about our wedding coming up at the end of July?.. Not sure if we should cancel or still continue with our original plans?

My venue isn’t cancelling either as of right now but our dilemma is .. that we are afraid that a lot of our guests won’t come and that everyone will be forced to do this whole social distancing thing and wear masks.. and that doesn’t exactly make for a good time as far as I’m concerned and not the type of wedding that I want. Is your friend getting married in NY?

Are you getting married in NY? What part? We are getting married on Long Island. We decided to postpone our 7/18 wedding awhile ago for many reasons. Now it looks like Cuomo is extending the stay-at-home order for NYC and LI to June 7th, and large gatherings won't be allowed until phase 4. If all goes perfectly, phase 4 will happen 8 weeks after reopening. So we wouldn't have been able to have our wedding anyway. If you're in upstate NY, you might be okay for end July.

Even if large gatherings are allowed, I do think we will have to wear masks for awhile (though I can't be sure) and all this may take a psychological toll on people. Our friends with a 7/11 wedding in PA still have not postponed, and if they don't, we won't go. Too uncomfortable with the idea of a crowd.

July 23rd. We are still going to do our destination wedding. No guest, just our adult kids and our minor kid. We will postpone if necessary and wait until the 3rd week of June to decide.

We decided two weeks ago to push our big July 18th wedding and reception out to next July 10th. But we are still getting married in a smaller ceremony (10-12 guests) this year on July 12th now.

Our venue wasn't cancelling our date yet, but they (and all our other vendors) were amazingly understanding about moving our date out and we were able to retain all our vendors.

We live in WA, and were planning to get married outside Portland, OR. Now getting married in a little chapel that specializes in elopements near our town.

July 25th and have not postponed yet. The last we talked to our venue (late April) they felt confident they would be back to hosting events in late June so they would not talk plan B with us. Over the weekend, our day of coordinator reached out telling us all of her weddings through mid-July have been postponed. I just let her know we tried to get a Plan B but were unsuccessful. I don't think anyone has the magical answer of what will be happening in July - and I have two vendors who obviously have a completely different idea. I feel anxious about it but will reach out to the venue again at the two month mark to see what is going on.

We're July 11 in California and are going through with the wedding. As far as RSVPs go, we've started receiving them and have had only one couple decline so far (they were travelling from Illinois, so we doubted they would come even before the pandemic). We decided that if we were to postpone, we wouldn't make the decision until later in June. Our governor has hinted that Phase 3 of reopening will be happening sooner rather than later (probably by early June) and weddings are a part of Phase 3. We're holding out hope at this point.

    Hi Cheryl,

I'm so sorry you are having to think about postponing your wedding.

There are many resources on our website that may be helpful as you navigate the planning process. This is a great place to start: Our COVID-19 Weddings Advice Guide. You'll find articles like this one: What to Do About Your Wedding During the Coronavirus Pandemic.

And here's another discussion specifically about July 2020 Weddings! OsQM71bUJ0Qu4ly8UKJOrw-4MNRCjpvLo-YljRdj

First things first, I recommend that you call or email your venue and see how they're handling July events. Things are changing daily, so keeping the lines of communication open is important. That way, you can make decisions in a timely fashion.

    Good luck! akxoU0fWxdmfE9sHUjjkYB-ICl1lHJDh_sCPQOky

We have a July 24th wedding date.. it’s kind of hard at this point to have a plan B unless you don’t mind waiting a year or so from now but nobody really wants to do that or what we might end up doing is just getting married down at city hall or something and having a party in our backyard for now with our very closest family and friends and then have something else down the road eventually..
