What are everyone's opinions on having a joint bank account?? I thought it would make things easier such as the finances and paying bills but my FH seems to have some hesitations on having a joint account.. Advice please!

This topic comes up a couple times a month. It's a very personal decision. I personally believe my money is my husband's money and his money is my money, and that we should be on the same page about everything. Our paychecks are deposited into individual checking accounts (that we had before we met) and then we transfer all our paychecks to our joint checking account where all of our bills and expenses are paid from. We also have a joint credit card (that we earn 2% cash back on each month). It's silly to me when people think of their money as "my money" vs. "his/her money". After getting married, you are ONE team and share all the responsibilities, all bills included.

FH and I have a joint savings account for strictly wedding saving- we will turn that into regular savings once the wedding is over

We're doing one. We feel it makes it easier to pay bills. Plus it keeps us on the same page with our budget.

Right now we have a joint savings for the wedding, but have our own regular accounts. After we get married, FH will be joining my account since I've had mine the longest.

We decided to go the route of joint all around. Before any major purchases we both just talk to each other and are pretty good at making sure bills are paid first and something went into savings.

We have a joint account and all bills are paid from one account. Makes it easier for us. We are good about talking first before spending large amounts.

We have individuals in the same bank. If needed we can transfer from each other's since we have access to it.

My fiancé and I have a joint account for billing. We still have our individual accounts since everything was already linked to that one before switching to joint account.

We are merging checking and savings accounts to one and having no separate accounts.

We have joint and separate accounts, but will eventually merge as much as we can into joint accounts after the wedding. It's very much both of our monies, and for budgeting purposes, it's simpler to have only a few accounts in the mix

We opened a joined savings account that we transfer to from our personal ones, joint is for wedding/vacation and after the wedding it'll be for paying the bills. I believe both of us should have our own hard earned money to spend as we wanted!... after the bills are paid of course

Joint and individual. But everything goes into joint. Just makes it so much easier to manage.

We have one account and everything is shared through that account. DH makes more than I do, but doesn't like to deal with bills as much as I do (I need to see everything every month and be organized about it, DH is too forgetful). It works for us. We come from the mindset of once you're married everything is shared, but that's a personal decision.

I will say I would see it as a potential red flag if your FH is SO opposed to combining finances. That almost seems similar to me as not sharing phone passwords. DH and I have access to each others phones, email, etc without question. We never need to use those things, but there are no secrets between us and that carries over to our finances.

@Rachel Langerhans - That is basically us. If couples are financially compatible, it makes it so much easier. We do monthly check ups on net worth and spending so we are on the same page. Plus our spending habits are basically the same too.

We have a joint checking and a joint savings but we also maintain our own individual checking and savings. We use the joint checking for our bills, groceries, etc. and we use our joint savings for saving for a house, honeymoon, wedding, etc. We use our own personal accounts for our own expenses such as student loans, car payments, etc. We have been doing it like this for almost three years now and it has never created any problems for us. It only has made things easier.

Like most pp we have a joint checking account which is what we use to pay bills, but we keep our own individual accounts as well.

My fh and i have been together since i was 17 (11 years), we got married last month and have always had joint accounts. We also have seperate accounts too though. He has access to all of my accounts and vice versa. We have 2 children and it just makes sense to me. If my husband and i cant share a bank account, id be hesitant on even marrying him. IMO
