Ivory vs White

Lexi, on November 16, 2016 at 8:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

So I've been debating back and forth on whether or not I should go with ivory or white for my wedding dress. I know that I'm pretty pale and that white can often wash fair-skinned people out, but I have a few white shirts in my closet and I don't seem to have a problem with those. I tend to have neutral skin rather than a specifically warm or cool skin. I'd like to have an idea of what to look for before I have my dress.

Go try dresses on and see what you like! The dress you try on may not be the same color you decide to order.

I think you are just going to have to try on dresses to see what you feel best in. Some dresses only come in certain colors so ivory may not be an option. Good luck though!

A white shirt is just that: a shirt. It doesn't cover you completely like a white dress, and to be honest, unless it is a super stark white (meaning it has a blueish cast to it) shirt made of synthetic fabrics, it's nowhere near the same.

I'm assuming the shirts you are referring to are more than likely a natural fiber or natural fiber blend fabric. Natural fibers cannot be bleached to the stark, bright white of a stark white synthetic fabric wedding gown. The color they reach is one most dressmakers call a "diamond white," which is a very slightly off white tone.

Very, very few look good in true, stark white, especially in such quantity. I highly recommend trying on.m both white and ivory dresses and seeing what you prefer on yourself.

The dress color can also make a HUGE difference in how the details of the dress looks. I tried my dress on in white and ivory. I looked okay in both, but I hated the white: the metallic embroidery just faded into it and the crystals seemed to disappear into the white. On the ivory dress, everything stood out beautifully. Guess which one I chose?

I went with ivory and champagne. White washed me out. Try some on. White is REALLY white.

The second I stepped out of the dressing room in a white dress, my MOH told the sales lady no more white. I turned around to look in the huge mirrors and boy was she right. I looked awful in white. I ultimately chose an ivory and champagne dress. I loved it.

I'm also really pale and did not like how I looked in a white dress but, it depends on your preference. Go try some on & that will answer your question.

My dress is a candelight color. Gives the illusion of white but isn't quite so stark. That's a good compromise.

I'm extremely pale but still ended up with a white gown. Went in wanting ivory. I tried on several different shades, the one I bought is actually called "soft white." There are so many shades of white and ivory, you will be able too find some of both that look good. I feel the material had a bigger impact than the shade itself.

I agree with pp, go try some on. It will help you.

Mine is technically a silk white and it works for my pasty skin- it has none of the blue that stark white does, yet none of the yellow that ivory does. Try some on and enjoy!

Definitely try both on and see what you like better! I chose ivory but I get pretty tan so I couldn't help with how it looks up against your skin tone.

White made me look 5 shades darker than I am. I chose ivory instead.

My dress is light gold over ivory and when I stand there by myself, and in pictures, it looks white, you would never notice, but if you put true white next to me it's very obvious. I think it just compliments my skin color well and personally I just really love the color (:

Mine is ivory with beige underneath. Sounds weird but it looks so pretty. I personally prefer ivory, but you can just try some on to see which color you prefer!

Try some dresses on in both colors, it's really the only way to know what looks best on you.

I have very fair peachy complection, and white just didn't look right on me. I ended up going with a beautiful creamy antique ivory lace fit and flare gown with a blush toned layer of organza underneath.

Please go try both on, as PP's have stated you really don't know until you see them on. I ended up going with a light gold dress with ivory overlay.

You need to go just try them on- you won't really know till you do.

I was pleasantly surprised I looked better in off white dresses than I thought- but no way an actual diamond white would work- most people can't make it work. But it was better than I thought.

But I mean- #teamcoloreddress all the way- and I mean real color- not a variation of white.
