Ivory Bridal Gown Question?!!

Nicole, on February 9, 2014 at 11:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

Okay..so I am looking at buying an ivory bridal gown. Are any of you not buying a white gown? The guy at men's Wearhouse said that the groomsmen would have to wear ivory shirts too..they are wearing light gray tuxs...do you think this will look weird? Help please!!

Miner's ivory, it looks pretty white. I doubt we'll beputting the guys in ivory unless it clashes horribly, but I don't see it being that big of a problem honestly.

It makes sense. Otherwise the dress might look weird in pictures. My dress is ivory and FH will wear a grey suit. I think an ivory shirt would be fine.

My dress ivory and there's different shades of ivory. My FH is wearing an off white ivory shirt and his tux is gray. My fh refused to wear the extremely yellowish verison of ivory.

I'm wearing ivory probably. Fh will be in black with ivory underneath, groomsmen will probably be wearing grey with black underneath, as BM's are wearing red...

I don't think that it is a big issue either like the other girls have said. My dress is ivory and I honestly don't think that you can notice it isn't white the difference is so minimal.

Good luck, don't stress it, it will be fine..

    Happy planning.

Mens warehouse though only gives you I think one option of ivory. I couldn't stand them! There rentals tuxedos are gross and they only give you like 4 options. My fh got his at a place called chazmatazz for only 169 and he's get a everything from socks to cuff links. My mens warehouse couldn't even match David bridal plum color

My dress is not quite ivory but not quite white. The guys are wearing grey suits for my wedding as well so I'm taking the straps to my dress as a swatch to pick out a shirt that matches.

About 70% of first-time brides now wear ivory.

The lady helping me with dresses told me to try and stay way from white menswear and flowers if I go Ivory. She said all the bright whites can make your dress look dirty

I'm wearing blush, actually. Since it's a warm color, I'm going with light ivory shirts too, against the black tux jackets. Our whole wedding color scheme is very warm & romantic & I think having a bright white shirt might clash.

I agree. I think if you have bright white against ivory, it might make your dress look yellow.

I have been married before, after a career in design that worked with color. MW tried to make me choose ivory shirts with my ivory dress. It's bs. White shirts looked better and were absolutely fine, if not totally unnoticeable.

My dress is ivory. Apparently, most wedding dresses are ivory. And apparently my eyes are stupid because I think all of the dress, including mine looked white. *lol* I always think of ivory as having that more yellow tint to it but *shrug*

Agreed with the ladies above, though. Keep the flowers and boys' shirts ivory as well (not the yellow kind) so that your dress doesn't look dirty.

I'm wearing a light ivory, and FH is wearing a white shirt, and a DIAMOND white tie and vest - diamond white is in between the yellowish ivory and white. Check out Jos. A Banks colors, they have it. It looks great. However,my groomsmen are wearing white shirts, no vest, and a colored tie of some kind.

I'm wearing antique ivory (like real yellowish almost) and the groomsmen are just in black and white neutral suits, gray should be fine.

I wore champagne, and DH and the groomsmen had white shirts. Honestly, it looked fine. I didn't even know ivory shirts were a thing.

I'm wearing ivory and my guys are wearing gray tuxes with ivory shirts. The lady said that if they wore white they would make my dress look dirty in pictures.

My dress is ivory, honestly I havn't even thought about the mens shirts making it look "dirty". FH and I are going to pick out the tuxes before he takes the GM back so we can figure it out then.... I wonder if I should also consider doing ivory for my flower girl also then... These thoughts hadn't crossed my mind before.... I think ivory is much softer these days so it's not as far off from white so I'm not too concerned but now you have me thinking... I should order a swatch of my dress to take when we go.

Apparently i'm wearing ivory, I thought it was white and didn't see the different until they were put beside each other, it's like a softer white to me. I was also told to make sure the guys wear off white shirts so they don't make my dress look dirty in pictures.

What I was told when we ordered our tux and my dress was ivory was that when youre next to the men your dress will look "dirty" or "tea stained"

I disregarded this, FH is wearing a black shirt anyway and the only thing white on him is his suspenders so he would have to take off his jacket and vest to see them. Our flower girls dress is white, so next to her i may look a little stained but I hardly think anyone will notice.

You need to take a swatch of your dress in.

I tell this story like once a week. My cousin got married about 6 months ago, and her dress was ivory and the guys shirts were bright white. The photographer had to go in and edit all of their shirts because the color made her dress look dirty.

That being said, a lot of grey suits will be made with white accents in the actual fabric so you just have to go in and try things out. There are a lot of different shades of white, ivory and off white.
